I plan on taking my ruger #1 out for some coyote hunting soon. So i'm looking for a none pelt destroying round. I have spent all day searching forums and google for a low GR OTC ammo for it, can't seem to find much less than 95gr. I found one website that claimed to have 62 and 58gr. but I can't find the site again and it seems hornaday and barnes no longer makes (???) this low of a gr ammo for the 6mm..

anyone have any thoughts or places? I don't shoot enough to reload, and its between the 6mm and my 300wm. or my 375. so... the 6mm is the best option I have.

Might be kind of hard to find any 6mm ammo, let alone something easy on hides. HSM Ammunition loads some 87 gr. Berger VLDs, but they might not be the best for terminal performance (at least you won't have magazine length issues); they also offer 75 V-Max loads but they can be messy.
Federal Premium sells an 80 grain soft point 6mm Remington round that was fairly accurate in the similar .243 Win. for me before I started reloading for that chambering, but I never shot a coyote with it.
Sure wish I'd gone 6mm Rem. instead now; I can't believe Remington doesn't still offer a rifle in 6 REMINGTON. Better hang onto yours. :)

One of the best things my father taught me was to NEVER sell any guns. And the 6mm sit real nice next to my 375 h&hh in #1.

I'll check out hsm. Guess it's time to find another #1. But smaller caliber. Shucks

Last time I checked there were 3 OTC loads left. A 100 grain Winchester PP, 95 grain Hornady SST, or the HSM with an 87 grain Berger.

Not one I would consider a fur load in the bunch.

Even if you reload, brass is getting hard to find.

I've used the 6mm a fair amount, and will say there are better fur friendly options available. Seems a good reason to pick up something in .224 caliber.

Funny
I was thinking on the .224. But that's be for next year. Thanks for the info. Maybe I should invest in reloading. Not that I shoot often, but lack of ammo is another problem

There have been threads off and on here of reloader's struggling to find brass, without resorting to buying factory ammo.

Locally I've seen a run of Hornady on the shelves, but I fear that's a run that we might not see again for awhile.

A shame really, but such is the current situation.

Well, I suppose it's time to stock up

As if its a big surprise to me.

Still gross. But I'll give the vmax a shot. Heard bad things on the some low gr. But 75 should be good.

I haven't shot as many as others, but broadside expect the 75 gr BlitzKing to exit dramatically, lengthwise they seem stay in. The lighter weights get mixed reviews as well. As much as I like the cartridge, and the rifle I have, a truly reliable fur friendly load is tough to find.

morning I have a custom 6mmAI. shoot 95gr. Vld bergers 57gr. 4831sc. pencil in

quarter out. have a dum question. why r u worried about pelt damage. r u a fur

collector? dum question??
