Older Rem 700 walnut stock

I've seen a couple Rem short action "varmint" walnut stocks
for sale on various websites. On these older varmint stocks,
was the barrel really a thick Varmint/Sendero profile ?
By this I mean about .950" at the end of the barrel channel,
10 inches from the recoil lug.
I think a typical sporter stock measures about .750".
 
A Remington Varmint barrel should have a diameter of about about .922" measured 10" in front of the recoil lug.
