I see so many posts shooting down the 6.5CM and I don't know why. I input data into the Hodgdon Reload Data Center site for the 6.5CM, 6.5-06, 6.5-284 and the 260 Rem.
To be fair I used H4350 and 143 gr ELD-X and the velocity difference at max listed charge was <50fps**
6.5 CM 2715
6.5-06 2752
6.5-284 2760
260Rem 2759

Seems insignificant to me and brass for the 6.5CM (and 260 Rem) are readily available. So why the distin for the Creedmoor?

**I'm aware that manual listed values are recommendations and some rifles are capable of handling more pressures but I was using listed values for comparison.

6.5-06 should be way higher than that. There's no way a shortened 6.5-06 (the 260 rem) is faster at the same pressures

6.5-06 142gr data, sometimes if you try and choose constant powder you aren't making a fair comparison, since the bigger cases need slower burning powder to avoid pressure spikes

I also have noticed that Hornady books considerably under load competing cartridges to make their own look better, hence me looking at Nosler data rather than Hornady data.

6.5-284 is the same way

Nosler 6.5 creed for reference, considerably slower

To be clear I don't have anything against the creedmoor, but there's no replacement for displacement. And Hornady books usually under report any cartridge that competes closely with one of their own. 7 rem mag vs PRC, 300 win vs 300 PRC, 6.5-284 vs 6.5 creed and 6.5 PRC, etc

My entire life growing up I listened to my brother and dad talk about how great the 270 was to a point it turned me off to it and I dont like the 270.
The exact same thing happened to the creedmoor that turned many people off because of fan boys. Also, Hornady had some original marketing that was nearly an outright lie pushing it and that also turned many people away from it.

^^^^^^^^ This ^^^^^^^^

I think that it's a pretty good "little" cartridge…….much like the 270 Win.

And much like the "cult like" following of the 270 Win. back in the day of JOC……it's the "cult like" following that rubs me wrong!

Clem, please remember ……you did ask! 😉 memtb

6.5-284 needs a 3.2" action and so does a 260, 6.5-06 needs a 3.4" action. Get them in the right action length and watch what they do, they leave 6.5CM in the dust badly. The 6.5CM is going to be easier on barrels for sure but it isn't even in the same class as far as speed goes.

Don't sell the 6.5-06 short. Its listed data is pretty anemic. With the right reamer it will absolutely blow the doors off of a 6.5 Creedmore. It ain't even close. Add 200+ fps or more to the 6.5-284 or 6.5-06 and you would be getting close in the same barrel lengths

That's ok guys just keep the jokes coming. I have thick skin. And I'll just keep killing deer with my little 6.5CM with about 24% more powder. They'll never know if the bullet left the muzzle at 2750 or 3400 fps. And my barrel will last a lot longer
6.5 CREEDMOOR FOREVER......LOL

Like the guys above said, the CM was hyped to the point of nauseam, therefore it's fun to poke at people we know are part of our shooting community. It's like ribbing your friends for some stupid thing they did that became an inside joke. No one outside of the shooting community even knows about the Creedmoor or the manbun required to own one, but we sure like the inside joke it has become. Case in point, the memes above.

I love my 260 Rem and don't own a CM, so I feel like I can jump on the bandwagon. Would I shoot a CM? Yes. Would I own one? Probably not. It won't fill the niche my 260 already fills.
