so i am new to the forum and new to the long range shooting. to start off i won a gun at a gun raffle so i decided to upgrade it to a Remington 700 sps 300 WSM. so i can shoot at my camp down into the fields up to 800 yards and i can shoot up on the top of the hill around 400 to 500 yards so im looking for a scope that can do that. I would like to reach out to 1000 yards at some point so i can say i can shoot that far. my price range on a scope is up to 600 dollars. i would like something that i can get custom turrets made to my reloads for the gun. I have a couple in mind.
vortex viper 6.5x20x44
nikon prostaff 5 18power
leupold vx2 18 power
i know the vortex and nikon i would have to spend the extra money on the custom turrets but they are free with leupold. so can you guys help me would there might be a scope that i missed it the price range. whats the max power i should have. i would like to kill white tail deer at long range.

I would check out Nikon's MONARCH 3 4-16x42 Custom XR Turret. 200 yard zero then go from there. Make sure you check out Nikon's Spot On Program as well. You can enter all your own ballistic info to get a very accurate custom turret. Your .300 WSM should be more then capable of accomplishing what you would like to do. It's all ging to come down to you gettig as many rounds as possible behind your rifle so that you are comfortable making longer shots. The Reminton SPS is a great foundation and I love mine in .308. You are definitely at the right place for info, there are a lot of experienced/trained shooter's who can pass along the info needed to help you reach your goal. I have shot at 1000 yards one time and it was humbling to say the least, especially when I felt that 600 yards was pretty easy and 800 while tougher, still gave me consistant hits. Enjoy and welcome to LRH.

This is a custom turret I have on an older MONARCH scope on my .300 Win.

For less than $600 you can get a Nikon Monarch 3 5-20X44. For glass mine is barely behind a Swarovski z5 5-25X52.

Well I was looking around the old interweb around my area on a classified add and I found a nikon monarch 5x20x44 for 250 bucks. Needless to say I will be a owner of a used monarch that has 25 shots threw the scope.

That's a great deal on a MONARCH 3 4-20x44. In case you were not aware that scope adjusts in 1/8 inch clicks. You can also add a Custom Turret to that scope.
Enjoy your great deal!
