Working on a load for my new rifle and I would like some advise on when is it good enough I call it quits. I know it's going to be personal preference, and I am sure there is no written in stone goal to shoot for. But I would like everyone's opinion.

To start with I am shooting a 300 mag and I have been able to shoot a .61 3 shot group very consistently with my current load. I measure this from the the edge of one hole to the furthest edge of the others, and I did not subtract the bullet dia. I had this rifle built for longs instance shooting/hunting.

So finally the question. Is my current load good enough for me to start working at shooting longer distance with it. Or should I still work on tweaking it a bit. Ya I know some of you guys can stack bullet after bullet into the same hole. But this is my first go round with working on shooting out past 600 yards, and I want to make sure I put enough "give a damn" with load development before I start with longer shots.

    Thanks

I'm going to assume the group you refer to was shot at 100 yards. In any event, it's impressive.

Take it out now to 200/300/400 yards and beyond, and see if it stays just as impressive. If so, go ahead and make a LOT of those because any of us would be happy with that load. :D

Sorry forgot to include that. Ya it was at 100 yards. I'm actually loading some rounds up right now to go shoot tomorrow. Will be able to reach out to 300. Will see how it goes.

    Thanks for the help.

It's more than "good enough", it's excellent. Start stretching things out and enjoy.

+1 sometimes 100 yard groups go to crap at 300.

Well I was able to go shoot this weekend and I think my load work is done. I was able to shoot 300 yards, no wind lucky me, and was very happy with my results. Will try and post the picture. Now I just need to find a place to shoot further. My usual spots are snowed out.

I certainly would not screw with that. Buy some of the same powder if possible in the same lot.

When you can deliver that kind of accuracy the rest pretty much works itself out.

I would love to buy some more H1000. I think there is a huge stock pile if it next some Hornady XTP's.
