need help with decision.

I just recently purchased a Remington sps in 300 RUM. I want to reduce recoil in this beast so I was exploring options. Options are a clamp on muzzlebrake, easy to do very little hassle , no pulling barrel or sending barreled action etc.. option 2. BLACKHAWK compstock, recoil reduction plus a somewhat bedded stock and no added length to gun or added noise. So my question to you guys what would you opt for?? Thanks for any help.

My personal opinion would be to go muzzle brake. Might not be what you want to hear, but IMO do it right and get your barrel threaded and brake installed professionally. You won't regret the time and expense.

If you are going to have it done, don't expect to get back on time for the rifle season.

Put a brake on it. And do it the right way with a thread. A well aligned brake is critical to accuracy -not something you can just slap on the muzzle.

I have the exact same item. This will not reduce the recoil of the rifle but rather reduce the felt recoil ... it does nothing for the muzzle rise/jump. Being able to see the target impact is priceless.

Using this will also add an inch to your LOP.l

I agree with the advise to get a muzzle brake done professionally for the stated reasons. That said, if you want to use this rifle this fall for hunting, You could use a slip-on recoil pad until after the season to make shooting more tolerable. I shot probably over 500 rounds through an un-braked 300 RUM Sendero with one and it greatly helped. One cool breezy afternoon I put about 50 rounds through it and could have easily put 50 more through. It lengthened my LOP, but it wasn't a problem and I'm a short guy. You could take it off in the field for hunting. I usually never feel recoil when pulling the trigger on a game animal.

All that said, my new 300 RUM is wearing a muzzle brake and I'm liking it. One thing though... since it is a factory sporter, I would hesitate spending the $$$ to put a brake on it until I know it can shoot.

I do not think any muzzle brake will make it possible to see bullet impacts with a sporter weight 300 RUM. I have had and shot one for over 10 years. These pads work great for bench work and when hunting it is not needed.

You'll be surprise what's out there these days ... I shot a friend's 338 RUM with factory sporter barrel with Kirby's painkiller MB and I can see the impact on target.
