I'm fixing to order an obermeyer barrel for my 300 wsm. I know that his 5R groove has a bore diameter of .298". Will I need dies/bushings for the .298", or will my forrester micro seater dies work? My dies are standard .308" for the 300wsm.

First, I got to thinking and then I wanted to be sure. I talked to Boots earler today and forgot to ask him that. I ordered the barrel and the mcmillan A-3 sporter today, I've got a 6 month wait on the stock. Now, I've got to sell the krieger that's on my 300...it's practically new, only put 25 rounds through it. The reason for the change is, I want a heavier barrel and 1-10" twist. The krieger Is 26" + a break, with a #4 or #5 contour and 4 groove 1-12" twist. It's drilling with 168 bergers.

Do you plan on supplying the reamer for the smith? I ask on the off chance you have a solid pilot reamer..... may not fit in a tight bore barrel. If you do have a reamer or ask the smith to tell you the outside neck diameter of his to see if the dies you have work. If they are expander type dies you can also mess with expander size if you want to adjust bullet tension.

If the smith I talked to today doesn't have the correct tools to do the job, I know someone else that can do the installation. He'll have everything.

I was just talking to Chad Dixon (LongRifles Inc) about that a couple weeks ago. He had to order a set of pilots just for working on Obermeyer barrels, he didn't like that much but hey, I like my Oby's.
