I'm getting a new .264 Win Mag built on a trued Rem 700 action, with a 1 in 8 twist Shilen barrel. I've got some of the Hornady 143 gr ELD-X bullets and will load them in new Nosler cases. I can't find much data on these bullets and am looking for some recommendations as to where to start. I'm thinking maybe H-1000 powder.

Note loaded longer than Saami Max OAL to touch lands and with 140 amax but should give you idea of speeds and upper charges. Forgot to include RL26 as it would viable candidate also. Have found RL26 to be a bit faster burn rate than RL25 data in the magnums just cleaner and better temp stability but not as stable as H1000, so yes H1000 is hard to beat.

Cartridge : .264 Win. Mag.
Bullet : .264, 140, Hornady A-MAX 26332
Useable Case Capaci: 77.269 grain H2O = 5.017 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.500 inch = 88.90 mm
Barrel Length : 26.0 inch = 660.4 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 62000 psi, or 427 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 105 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

I suggest that you have as long a barrel as you can get put on your 264 mag. I have a 27 3/4" on mine. Retumbo has been the powder that makes mine do it's thing. Mine has a 9" twist Shilen barrel. I did not have the rifle built but got it practically new from my hunting buddy. I shoot the 130 gr Accubond average 3350 fps and sub moa accuracy. It smokes deer. :D

MarkA's provided QL is pretty close in regard to Norma 217 specifically. I use 68.0g N-217 with the ELDX and see 3168fps with an SD of 9. I have shot it as cold as 34• (3,172fps SD 11) and as hot as 93• (3,167fps SD 7). I measure velocity with a magnetospeed and have validated drops out to 600 with the above listed data, in my rifle. I tested as high as 74.5g of N-217 which yielded 3,244 fps without any sign of pressure in my rifle, but best accuracy for me was 68.0g.
I have found the need to sort the ELDX by weight and take a look at the diameter to control pressure and keep the SD at a level that is acceptable to me relative to what I try to accomplish with the rig. There are threads on the forum that go into detail about that so I won't take the time to go into those details.

I emailed Hornady asking for this information.
Their response was so vague they might as well not have responded at all.

Plus 1 on doing some serious sorting on the eld-x. Base to ogive and OAL are consistent, but weight and diameter varies a good bit in all lots I have checked. It was a short fling for me, I'll stick to the Bergers.

That's really nothing new for Hornady. Whenever I get a lot of Hornady bullets I am already prepared to sort, one way or the other.

Yep. The price is attractive, and they are a 'local' business for me, but Hornady could surely use a higher level of QC. Especially since these projectiles are intended to be utilized for extended range hunting applications. These ELDX bullets open well and even at 264 win mag velocities retain a good percentage of mass.
I grew weary of re-pointing closed and simply ragged tips and finding what I think was tumbling media (?) stuck inside of the Berger 140 VLD. I think a fella can expect a little better than that when he's shelling out nearly $50 per hundred at the local box store
QC seems to be a lost art in the manufacturing industry today. I would gladly pay $50 per 100 for lead core hunting bullet, plastic tipped or not, that could hold tolerances as closely as Lapua does with their 136g Scenar L. Sorry if this appears to hijack the OP's question, H-1000 works ok with 140g class projectiles, I'd probably look at RETUMBO or Norma 217 myself. Enjoy that 264 win mag, it's an often forgotten hot rod that will serve you well. I'll put my soapbox away again now.

Anybody loaded their 264 WM with the Hornady 6.5 147gr ELD or Sierra 150? Waiting impatiently for a 28" barrel 264 WM Blaser R93 barrel and the new Berger 6.5 155gr Hybrid.

I.used the lapua 155 grain mega tip in my Ruger 264 win mag which has a short throat .I want to lengthen the throat but it shoots clover leafs with those bullets .I wish h-870 was still made I.Have four kegs of it left .I am trying wc867 powder but it's for less than 85 degrees weather .The 264wWinchester needs a long.throat 28 inch barrel and heavy bullets and h_870 powder !

I messed with WC-867. Don't bother wasting your time with WC-867, unless you are ready, willing and able to significantly document your load and are able to take those readings in the field. It is about as temperature stabile as a fart. Plenty of better choices out there.

Running a factory Model 70 1-9" 26" with the 142 LRAB at 3225 with RL33. I've played with it down to 28 and up to 105. The 105 load tops out at 3260 the 28 degree day was just under 3200. Not the best but the groups held up for me.

Finished up initial MV test today with my .264 Win Mag using the 147 ELD-M. Ended up at 73.0 gr of Retumbo at 3360fps. AOL base to ogive is 2.880. New WW brass, BR-2 primers. Rifle is a trued Rem 700 with Krieger 1-7 twist, finished at 28.25 inches. Was shooting 3 shot ragged hole at 100 yards at this powder charge/velocity, will test at 1,000 on Friday.

Anyone else out there shooting the 147s?
