My first buck from a wheel chair

I shot this little guy in Northern California at my buddies ranch. I got a call to come up to his place and do some hunting, but the catch was that I need to get there with in an hour, was so excited I forgot to grab my gun and had to barrow one. Well this is what I ended up with, I was pretty stoked.

HARPERC, I shot him in geyserville california. Like I said the rifle was a loner being I left mine at the house in a rush to get the the ranch. It is an old Springfield 1903 30-06, with a leupold vx-2 3x9. I shoot a 7mm08 so it was a bit different, but it did the job. He was a 4x4, 19 1/4 wide, so all in all a nice buck for around here. Most of our black tail are like German shepards with horns.

I'm 5 years post accident T5. People have no idea how hard the wheelchair makes life.....especially hunting.

I'm glad to see you are getting out there and still killing things.

That's a hummdiger of a buck. How did the hunt go, range at the shot and what not? We all love a good hunting story.

It went as well as we would all love our hunts to go. I got the call to come up to the ranch at noon on a Wednesday, my boss happens to be a very good friend so he let me take off early and head up there. A week prior to that I spent the day at the ranch looking for a buck to wack but didn't find anything. So my buddie Greg said if I could get there in an hour we could hunt till sun down. It was an 85 degree day so if we were to come across anything it would more than likely be bedded down. 8 minutes is how long it took, from when I got there till I shot my buck was 8 minutes. We started on a little trail that worked its way throught a very thick wooded part of the property, we came around a bend in the road that turned into a 150-175 yard straight away. To my right was nothing but woods on a steep hill side and my left was nothing but trees and a very steep downhill into a canyon. Standing on the right side 30 yards back from the road and about 125 yards down the road we saw a deer standing but could not see his head. From where we were we could see shoulders back and could tell it was a buck, but that was it. I already had the cross hairs on the sweet spot and was waiting to see if he was a shooter, Greg had said to me shoot him, there ain't a buck on this ranch that ain't a shooter. So not knowing what he was, other than knowing he was a buck I pulled the trigger. He dropped where he was standing, but I still couldn't see what he was. Greg went up on the hill to grab him and drag him down for me, when he got to him he looks back at me and says "s**t!!! You shot a little spike/fork! I forgot there was one running around back here." After he said that I have to admit I was a little bummed, after hearing all the stories of big bucks on his property I thought I was going to get one. He drugged the deer down the hill with his back to me so I couldn't see him till he hit the road, he got to the road and turned around with him and said "you shot a 4x4 you little f***er". I was pumped, no doubt about it. He said to me "you should of seen your face when I told you it was a spike/fork, you looked like someone just killed your best duck dog." We got back to the ranch house and I gutted him and skinned him, and it was a hell of an 8 minute hunt.

That's AWESOME!!! can't help but love a good ribbing. Congrats again and great job to the both of you. Gotta love a quick hunt especially in that heat, just doesn't get any better than a success story. Shoot straight and best of luck on more adventures.
