Montana 99 feeding issues

Montana 99 in 250AI short action. With short bullets such as Sierra 90 and 87 grain the cartridges from mag box don't feed properly. Depending on which side they feed from seem to catch the shoulder of cartridges on chamber edges. 100 grain SMK fed great.

Sounds like you need that little bit of extra length on the bullet , you might try the lighter 90 gr mono s like the 90 gr Hammer absolute . Handloading you can get 150 too 200 fps more vel if not more than your 87 gr cup and core that mono is longer than the 100 gr your using..

Try the 92 gr Hammer Hunters. I get just under 3K fps. I use that bullet out of my Ruger ultralite 250 Savage. Feeds reliable all the time. They just smoke axis deer.
