Haven't seen a lot of love for building off a model 70. Have 2 wsm push feed rifles that I love. That will need new barrels soon especially with the way I shoot them. Thinking a 7 saum and a 25sst would be perfect for these actions. But haven't found much on people building off of them. If you have built on model 70 drop a picture and a build list of your rifle.

You obviously like the action. Don't worry about the lack of people building off it; instead, find a reputable gunsmith who will build it for you. Good luck!

I'm going to guess that's because when you go to push feed the model 700 has way more common options

What he said!! With the push feed action, any smith that can barrel a 700 should be able to barrel a M70 push feed. I prefer the M70 safety and trigger over the 700.
I have a couple of 'smiths who'll barrel Winchester actions, so far they have barreled two for me, one a long action the other a short action, both in .308 Winchester, barrels are heavy Kreigers. I installed a Jard trigger in one of them. Stocks are H-S Precision. I have found with my loads, they are both sub MOA rifles.

I have a Model 70, that is on its forth barrel. Just finish rebarreling it to a 6mm-06 with a 28 inch Benchmark 1-8 twist. Had M16 extractor installed to assist with extraction. My gun has alot of wear and 42 years of history together. I had a custom stock made 25 years ago by Richards Micro fits out of California. I love the gun and it is back to shooting great again with its new barrel and caliber. Here is a target from yesterdays load development.

The Model 70 actions, pre and post 64, as well as push feed or controlled round feed designs are capable of excellent performance. There is one watch-out that can be easily remedied by a good gunsmith. The post 64 designs, unlike the pre-64 one-piece bolts use a 2 piece bolt design where a collar/sleeve on the bolt handle press fits to the bolt body. While very rare under normal use it has been known to give out under heavy use, and render the bolt in-operable. A knowledgeable gunsmith can easily tack weld the fitment. Not sure if this was addressed in more recent versions by the factory, but my later Model 270 WSM(FN) in CRF "appears" to be welded. My earlier versions are not. Something to check…I saw such s failure at a match years ago.

Not sure if this fits in here or not, but I'm in the middle of an M1999 [Model 70] clone and patiently waiting on two 1/4x32 screws to hold it all together. I've been out of this for a long time and didn't realize two screws would be the delay.
Montana M1999 barreled action 6.5x284 bought over 20 years ago and sat in the gun safe. B&C stock, taped together at the moment waiting on two screws which I will have shortly. It sits while I clean up the work area and wait on the screws.

I recently acquired one and I am looking for scope bases for it good luck and glad to see more interest in these rifles

Load data says loading with IMR 5010? Never heard of it!
