Well "the sow's ear" isn't actually that bad. It's a 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger American Predator rifle with excellent accuracy and some innovative design features. But the stock and trigger cold use some upgrading.

I bought a 30 mm tubed SWFA 5 - 15 x 42 scope for it. (FFP and mil/mil) and some Burris 6 screw rings to mount on a 20 MOA aftermarket Pic. rail made for Ruger American rifles. This scope is absolutely the best I could find in FFP for the price. The quality of the glass and the turrets surprised me at this price point. But then SWFA puts their money into their products rather than advertising.

Next I got a Boyd's Classic laminated stock and finally I'll soon order a Timney trigger.

I'm not the first person to make these modifications. Others on the 6.5 Creedmoor Forum have done nearly identical mods to the RAP as well.

I feel the result will be a rifle that is not only an excellent shooter but give me pride of ownership for turning a very decent bargain rifle into a better than average rifle.
Yes, all the upgrades are "reasonably priced" but they also give great quality and value for the money, just like the rifle itself.

I just picked a RAP 6.5 Creedmoor. I polished the trigger and removed one coil from the trigger spring, (not the sear). And got it down to 2.5 pounds... It has a little creep but polishing definitely got rid of some... I emailed Boyds about the ProVarmint stock and they said the standard short action won't fit the Predator, so I filled out a request form and just did the Rockite stock fill tonight. I'm holding off hoping they offer the ProVarmint in the Predator soon. But for now the stiffening of the factory stock with Rockite will do. It's a fun rifle to tinker with, just like my Savages...
