J.E I believe you already found the answer to your question but I'll add a bit, there was an article years back that stated that theres rimfire ammo and premium rimfire ammo in 22mag but only premium rimfire ammo made for the 17hmr.

How do you reload rimfire???

Talk to any old timer and if they did much reloading, they probably did rim fire ammo.

Years ago you could buy pre primed empty cases or mix your own primer mix and pour your on. and we could buy bullets so you had everything you needed die were also available.

We did it for accuracy and consistency, but it was a pain in the rear. Bullets are better now so it might be beneficial.
