Looking at a Nikon Buckmasters-opinions?

First off, I appreciate all the information that is made available on this site!

A little history, I have a Sendero 25-06 with a Leupold 6X18 fine crosshairs with Premier Reticles dots installed (15 years ago) at 3,4 and 500 yards. Very nice shooting rifle!
I just acquired another Sendero in a 7mm Remington Magnum and would like to set it up for long range shooting (800-1000 yards). I have a Leupold Vari X III 6.5X20X40 fine crosshairs that I can put on it, but it has two things wrong with it. One, it does not have target turrets (I know, easily solved) and two, it is gloss, not matte (seems trivial, but it just doesn't look right on the Sendero!)
I've been out of the shooting game for a few years, just trying to get back into it. I know several people are going to reccomend the upper end scopes, but right now the budget is pretty limited!

I have run across a Nikon Buckmasters 6X18 with target turrets with the fine crosshairs and dot. Does anybody have working knowledge of this scope? Would it work on this application?

Any other scope suggestions would be appreciated within a reasonable price.

Lol! Thought about that! It would be easier just to get over the looks of a shiny scope on a matte rifle.

I dont know your prefrence or how much it is but I Think the Holland reticle looks solid and ive read multiple positive comments on it. Its called ART, you can ship your leupold scope to them and they will install a their reticle they have a MOA based and MILL based reticles, but im not sure how much it is, that would fix ur turret problem.

I have the 6-18x40 buckmasters on my 243. It's repeatable in clicks and seems to function fine. Clarity is decent but not great on 18x. Is pretty good at 12-14x. Side focus works well. I'm very pleased with it for $350. I believe it would make a fair budget scope for say 750-800 yards. May squeeze 1000 out if you get a good one.

I have two of the bm's including the one you speak of. A word of warning: these scopes are cursed with what some call "tunnel" vision", like looking thru the wrong end of a scope. For a more "spacious" view and better glass, the 5-20x Weaver Grand Slam would be good, if you don't have to have side focus. The new Leopold VX-2 in 6-18, or the Vortex Viper, for a few bucks more, also would be good options.
