I also have the Seekins Element and settled on the NF NX8 4-32. I have the Leupold MK5 on my 270 but prefer the NF over the MK5.

You can't go wrong with the Nightforce.

Both those options are good. I also would also recommend looking at March Compact scopes. I love mine but they are a little more money. Vortex LHT is also a good choice for light weight.

Find one you like the reticle and features and go with it. In the price range you are looking most scopes are going to be good.

Gonna try and snag one of the new Seekins element hunters when they come out and was looking for some input on scopes.
I live out in the west so longest shots I'd like to be able to take would be around 1200.

I was looking at the NF nx8 4-32 or the leupold mark 5 5-25. I'm totally open to other scopes but was wanting to stay on the lighter side for sure.

I was also kind of looking at the Burris E6 but not sure if I wanna make the jump to electronic

Please let us know what you decide. Also, after you get it mounted and start shooting it, please let us know how things work out.

The NX8 4-32 is my favorite scope but not a Seekins. You can't change their scope base so no matter which size rings you use, you will see a blob (the barrel) taking up the entire bottom portion of the scope. I got rid of my element and ph2 because it drove me so crazy.

I don't understand this. I don't have this issue even at 4x.

Look at the Swarovski Z5+25x56 30mm tube they pretty good europtics is the best place that I have purchased them around 2065.00 list price Around 20OZ.

I have the NF in 2 -20 on my light build.Been happy with.My mark 5 is on a larger rifle, it is a really big scope compared side by to nx8

For target shooting I am partial to a 4-20 or 5-25x I currently have a Meopta on my 6.5 and it is the bees knees

For hunting I like second focal planes and a dial, so I am a huge believer in the Vx-5 or VX6 CDS scopes. I hit a springbok at 505 yards with a 3-15 on a .30 Hembrook and did not feel under scoped.

1200 is long for anything, so I am not going to tell you what to do but I would think long and hard before taking a shot that far.

You definitely don't need a lot of power to be able to shoot at that yardage. If you are using a lightweight rifle, I'd get a scope to match. I've ran all the high end, fairly lightweight, exposed turret scopes (Swaro,Nightforce, Vortex Razr, March) and the one that has taken the cake for me is the Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18. It has great glass, lighter weight than most and the power range is great for anything you'll do with it. I've put rounds on target at over 1700 yards successfully and did not feel like I needed more power. For reference, I've worn glasses my whole life and my eyesight isn't the best. Leupold is a great US company with a great warranty and if you are prior military or law enforcement the discounts are superb compared to the rest. I have three of these scopes and when I build another rifle I'll be getting a fourth. I even run it on one of my AR's. In my opinion it is the best all around hunting scope out there.

I checked that leupold out and it's only 2 oz lighter. I get the military discount on both which is nice but I'll have to go and check them out in person, we have little coues deer here and when they hide in a bush or a tree they can be hard to locate in the scope which is why I was wanting to go with a stronger power

I've several 6.5 x 20 x 40 Vari X III's. Really like them but on these last 2 magnums I put together, I went with Nightforce. A competition and an ATACR 7X35X56 F2. They cost but I like them.

Between the two you have listed, NF Nx8. Own 4 NF and they've been fantastic. A quick word on NF glass: I read a lot that some feel NF glass is substandard in their price tiers. Glass is subjective, so I hesitate to tell anyone that they aren't seeing what's in front of their own eyes; however I'll just share my experiences. The NF's I have and hve used dont seem to optimize the image for the "pop" that a lot of folks ultimately judge glass quality on. Instead, they prioritize detail resolution. Often I've found myself thinking that their F1 reticles are way too small on low X to show up on dark game in heavy cover without being lit, only to be proved way wrong in actual conditions. Certainly, IMO, there's better hunting reticles than what NF offers in some models, but I can report that they are plenty usable on game in myriad conditions.

I'm running a 4-32 F1 MILC reticle on a 1:8 300 win. Scope has been rock solid, but I'm not in love with the reticle. I much prefer running MIL based scopes, but such as it is in the F1 NX8's, I find the NF MOAR in the same scope to be a better all around aiming reticle. Only have a few hundred rounds through the MILC, so waiting to see if it grows on me. Be nice if they offered the MILR in the 4-32's. I spent quite a bit of time with one I set up for a work friend, and I found it to suit my sensibilities well.

I agree with lower X component of this post. I do a lot of shooting with SWFA 6X and Bushy 3-12 LRTS/LRHS's (My favorite hunting scopes), among many others. My scopes rarely see much over 10x in the field, and I can't say that I feel under X'd.

For dedicated 1200 yds, more X makes sense, but many who haven't tried to shoot l0X at longer ranges might be surprised at just how precise one can be @ 6X or 10X.
