After waiting for almost a year past the date it was supposed to be, our new 1000m range opened up. Today the wind wasnt bad and I had the chance to go out and try to stretch out my 110ba 338 Lapua. After warming myself up on the 220 yard plate then the 420 I decided to try out the 1150. After dialing my scope up what my ballistics program told me I found out an important lesson, my scope is 15 minutes per full turn not 14. I had ended up putting 2 extra minutes into my dope. With very little dirt behind the plate it was impossible to pick up a splash and no trace was visible to my dad or I while shooting. Back to 420 yards to confirm my zero and then I realized what I had done, so back to 1150 with 29.5 minutes instead of 31 and surprise, a hit just left of the plate. A 1 minute windage adjustment and wham, my first hit at anything beyond 500 yards. To say I was happy would be an understatement. After the cheering and dancing subsided dad sugested I try another to confirm, wham second hit, then a third just for good measure. Very proud day for me as I have been working towards this for almost 2 years. I'm not ready to try it out on an annimal............... yet, my wind reading needs a little more practice. But I am on my way. As you can see in the pictures my grouping isn't fantastic but its a start. Shooting was done from a bench with a bipod and no rear bag. If this is in the wrong place please move the post, but as I stated earlier proud day for me and I wanted to share with people that understand what it takes to get there.

Congrats on the shooting! Sounds like you had a nice day at the range. I had my first +500 yard steel hits a few weeks ago. Practice makes it come easy. Your groups will tighten up with the aid of a rear sandbag. I'm no pro, but I noticed a big difference in group size due to rear bag.

^^I just re-read your post... that target was at 1150...That group i nothing to be ashamed of for your first outting!!!

My 300 ultra with 185 VLD's produces a nice loud "Whack" on steel at 500, but doesn't put quite the "dent" that your Lapua makes. What kind of steel you shooting at? That Lapua made it look like a license plate.

Again, congrats and nice shooting!

Not too sure what kind of steel it is, was only 3/8" and judging by the dents I'm pretty sure its not AR. The round actually almost penetrated and to tell you the truth I was pretty surprised by that. Was expecting maybe a little indentation, not the crater I ended up with. Thanks for the congrats, I'm still grinning about it myself :) As for the rear bag, I'm sure it would help but I am purposly not using one as I wont have one with me in the field and feel that practicing without one better prepares me for an actual hunting scenario
