Hammer Hunter Load Data, (See page 1, Post 8)

Well Heck! First time something 7PRC has peaked my interest!!
Nice going...
This is what my intention was, when I decided to build it. The biggest bullet to go down this barrel will be 175. Just for the brass. If I'm going to shoot anything bigger, I have 300Wm 's and 300RUM 's
Different strokes for different folks. 🤓

I have a box of 30 caliber 166 HH to try out in my 10 twist 300WM. I checked the repository for loads, saw one load.

Would anyone using HH 166 mind sharing what load you'r use with these bullets on 300WM?
Was wondering if you got any reply's on this? Just picked up some myself and would be interested in your findings. Thanks

Not the 166, but the 152 and now 150. 6.5 Staball has done really well with that weight. Maybe give something in that H4350, 6.5 Staball, Rl16 burn range.

I wrote down a load a regular here on LRH forum posted a good while back with 166 gr Hammer Hunter.
It is not at max but he stopped due to great accuracy.300 win mag,75.5 gr H4831SC CCI 250 primers.
Not at max.Barnes manual lists 79.9 gr H4831SC as max so there is room to go.
My rifle did not shoot that load as good as his did so I will work up a bit more speed to see if my rifle will like that combination.Maybe later.
Every rifle is different so work up to see what combination your rifle like's best.

There's 5 different members who have posted their loads in the database, with 9 loads total (Muddyboots ran 5 different powders)
Mine was:
300 WM 166 HH, 26" 1-10", Sako AV action, Norma brass, F 215m 3.553 OAL, N 560 77.7 3208 fps
This is a 3 shot group at 200 yds, measured .833"

I have since put a new barrel on the rifle, moving up to a 26" Brux 1:9 I was planning on running the 181 gr HH through this tube after I burn up my supply of Berger 205 EH, but I still had some of the 166HH loads from last year so I decided to empty them out. The loads are safe in that barrel as well, showing no pressure signs.

3 shot groups aren't very meaningful statistically, but when a load consistently puts rounds touching each other, I'm generally happy.

As for performance on deer, I can't say if it was good or bad. After sighting in at 200, putting a few hundred rounds down range in different conditions, and even checking at 750 yds for drop, I ended up blasting a little forked horn at 40 yards. He dropped like a bag of rice, but I don't think any bullet could have failed at that range.

I might have posted this before. 166HH in 30-06. Wrote down wrong charge on the target. I was just running pressure test when I grabbed 57.5 because 57, 57.5, 58 clustered together in one hole.

POI stayed the same when changed primers. The slight shift in group orientation could very well be shooter error.

I got sidetracked in developing 215 grain load, I have not visited the 166 HH load work since.
