I'm trying to get some velocity out of my new 124gr HH from a 20" 6.5 Creedmoor. Since this bullet is about the same length as my 140gr Berger's I'm running into a case capacity issue. Running RL-16 and cant get anymore shoved into the case. Never used a bullet this light and wondering if anyone has some good powder recommendations for these 124gr HH that return some good velocities. Thanks for the help.

Happy shooting.

Thanks for the info, what barrel length and what kind of velocities were you getting from that load?

Not the 124HH, but I have a wonderful load with the 117gr sledge hammer. 45grs of R16 (lightly compressed), gives 3063.

The 124HH @ 44.3grs R16, CCI 450s, shoots .3s @2938 in my creedmoor. Start lower, use a drop tube, and work up. Lapua brass. 24" bbl.

20" Proof with a TBAC Ultra 7. Pushing the 124 Hammer Hunters with 40.2g of Varget, which averages 2880 and shoots in the .3s or .4s when I do my part.

Anyone try RL-26 with this bullet or is it to light for that? I keep reading about guys using RL26 with the creedmoor but not tried it myself.

Rl 26 works awesome for heavier bullets (147 eldms). You will need a faster burning powder like H4350 or Varget.

Ok, i give up. how did you get 45.0gr of RL-16 to fit in a creedmoor case? I love the numbers i just didnt know that was physically possible.
Drop tube and fireformed brass.

You want some crazy velocities, try RL26. You run out of case capacity before you hit pressure. I got over 3000 fps with the 143 gr ELDX. Dropped down to the accuracy node at 2952 fps. Shoots a ragged hole. I'm getting only 50 fps more velocity with the same bullet in my 6.5-284 Norma.
