I have a couple pounds of h-870 and 7828 . my son got a 300weatherby magnum. i am loading some 180 and 200 grain bullets for an up coming elk hunt which powder would you start with? thanks. ron

Out of the two 7828 will probably get you more velocity plus in the future at least you might can get IMR 7828 because H-870 has been discontinued.

i have MRP, Re-22, 26 and 25; H-4831. 7828 , and H-870 . i have one manual that says 95.0 grains of H-870 get 3140fps with a 200 grain bullet.

I believe both would be good for those bullet weights, but as @RT2506 posted once your H-870 is gone there is no more to purchase and 2 lbs will not last long in the 300 Weatherby case. JMO

My son and i theoretically have a 100 percent chance to draw our preferred bull elk unit this year. it has been considerable wait.
