I am rebarreling a Model 70 and chambering in 30-06AI, throating for 185 Bergers. I have a bunch of h1000 and was wondering if anyone has any load data for this combo?

I haven't used H1000 in my 30-06AI, yet it could be used. You need to find some one with quick load to run you a load for this combo.

Even though you have lots of H1000 is not the best powder H4350 is a much better choice. I'm getting 2900FPS out of mine with a 190g Berger VLD and 3125 FPS with a 168g Berger VLD.

See if some one will swap you out for H4350. H1000 is too slow and top velocities are un-obtainable with H1000.

Hope this helps,

Dan

My 30-06AI digests load of H4350, H4831Sc and IMR 7828/7828SSC equally. With the heavies (above 175 gr.), it prefers either 4831SC or 7828/7828SSC.

Sorry for the slow reply, but I will try your suggested powders. I have tried the imr7828 in a 280ai with 180's and getting 2900.

May I ask what brass your using for your 280ai? I had to tone mine down due to expanded primer pockets with 7828ssc, cci250 and sgk175, I don't recall the actual powder charge at the moment. I'm using Nosler brass at the moment

Did you just get loaded 280 rem or Cream of wheat with new 280 brass? Just curious since it would be nice to find a standard 280 over the counter load that would shoot well in a pinch!:D

I have been fire-forming with full power hand loads seated out a lil further in this particular rifle,(custom chamber), but I can get close enough to the sweet spot to still get very acceptable accuracy. The rifle shoots great this way, and the brass is perfectly formed. Then I just moved on to 280ai load and it shoots even better.
It works good for me and I'm happy with this method. As far as factory ammo, I pretty much stay away.

Is anyone shooting the Berger 215s from an '06 ai? That would be my bullet of choice. And would probably help with your powder issue as well.

No sir I have not...but when I receive my new rifle(06ai), I will be trying them. I own one 06ai already that I am really liking. It has a standard SAMI chamber, and I'm shooting 180 gr. Sierra Matchkings in it with IMR4350 getting 3030 fps. Its holding 1/4 moa @ 200 yd.s...
However, I had a model 70 and a new Lilja 30 caliber barrel laying around so i 'm having it re-barreled with the Lilja and chambered in 30-06AI as well, and throating it for the 185-210 Bergers.
