I've been H-4831 exclusively. It will produce ragged one hole groups. However, I have read that RL-19 & RL-22 will shrink groups. Does anyone use these powders? I'm getting ready to leave on a Rocky Mountain mule deer hunt. I'm going to load about a hundred rounds. I will try to hit a Utah range before deer season begins.

I went from RL22 to H4831sc. Got more speed with RL22, but better accuracy with H4831sc.

I was running 140 grain NAB.

H-4831 is all I ever use and see no need to try anything else. If it ain't broke I don't try to fix it. :D

I've loaded close to a hundred .270 Win rounds last night using 60 grains of H-4831SC, 130 grain Sierra GK bullets, Fed 210M primers, and W-W cases.

I need one more range trip to fine tune my 2 .270 Win rifles.

My Sako seems to like RL-19. But it'll shoot anything well.

I thought it was hard to beat H4831 in the 270 win as well. With 130's I tried VV N560 and accuracy is as good and velocity a little better. Been meaning to try 560 with 150's but I loaded about 50 150 NPT with 55 gr of H4831 my main deer hunting load for 3 years now of which I am down to about 12.

Tried RL 22 and accuracy was not as good in my rifle as H4831. I'm in agreement with most always look but if it aint broke don't fix it.

Good luck and shoot straight

I've used IMR7828 for years in mine, until this year. I've started playing with IMR7977 and I'm thoroughly impressed with it. I've used mostly 140gr Hornady interlock or SST bullets and it's been amazing. With 7977 I have to shoot 200yd targets just to get a measurable group. LOL This may be unique to me though in that I put a 27" Krieger barrel on a Rem 700ADL (quite a while ago actually) and the slower powders really come alive in it. I run the 140 Hornadys at just under 3100fps and just can't ask for anything nicer. Never tried RL-19 myself. RL-22 gave impressive velocities but I found it to be finicky with temps. Again, that might be unique to my rifle. Loads with it that I'd worked up on 70-80 degree days didn't work well on 15-20 degree days....

Sans, I was looking for a .270 Win load yesterday and found yours. Loaded 20 and went to the desert this morning. Here's the target, thanks, great load.

Hi Dosh,

I went to the range this morning. My season opens this Saturday. I wanted to dial in my 43 year-old Model 700 .270 Win. I've recently put a Leupold VX-3 2.5 x 8 atop her. After one shot I adjusted my scope. The next three were dead center about 1.75" high. The 3-shot group was about .5" at 100 yards.

My load was a very dear old friend: 130 grain Sierra GK, 60 grains H-4831SC, W-W brass, Fed 210M primer. Velocity is ~3030 FPS, chorno'd.

I'm not sure if there is another powder that could improve upon the group I got this morning. And my Model 700 is a hunting rifle.

The photo needs to go 90 degrees clockwise.

I've one-shot killled mule deer and one buck antelope with this load.

My Sako AV .270 shot just about as well.

I'll be carrying my 43 year-old Model 700 this season.

I wonder why I've bought other rifles since my I bought my Model 700 .270 Win 43 years ago.

Sans, Looks like you have that working quite well. I don't really need a lot of the firearms I own either the old 270 would have handled pretty much every game animal I have harvested without issue.

Good luck this season

Bob
