Those who believe this is true, please describe the mechanism of action behind the alleged "wandering scale."

For background info, I've studied and worked in analytical laboratories for decades and NEVER had or even heard of any issue with EM radiation affecting a digital scale, and I've worked with digital scales ranging from $20-$20,000 that weigh far more precisely than any reloading scale.

Upon searching, the only reports Im seeing of this phenomenon are from people within the shooting community. Feels like a hoax to me.

I don't doubt that the issue exists. I would just like to understand it better. How significant are these outside sources? Are certain scales better than others at shielding? How close do fluorescent lights need to be? Maybe my fluorescent desk lamp that I have attached to the back of my reloading bench is too close, but the fluorescent overhead lighting is fine? How strong does a WI-FI signal have to be? Is the WI-FI really a source of interference or is it just someone theorizing that it may be? If you have your cell phone in your pocket but not sitting right next to your scale, maybe your cell phone will not interfere? Or maybe it will? These are the sort of things that I would like to have answers to.

On the other hand, when someone offers their experience who has worked in laboratories with high end scales, I try not to discount their experience. I have been hanging out on this thread waiting for people like that to weigh in on the subject.

Companies spend big bucks to make sure that their product emits electromagnetic interference at a minimum level. All things electric emoit electromagnetic interference.
Are you aware that people who have pacemaker cannot weld because of the strong electromagnetic emission from the welder and the are it produces.

And the biggest emitter of electromagnetic interference lies 93,000,000 millions away.


So no the shooting industry is not the only industry that talks about electromagnetic interference.

It ain't magic.
And I am sure the company where you used the high precision scale had systems in place to filter out said EMI. EMI+ electromagnetic interference. Just because you can't see the effect does not mean it is not there.

Even battery heated garments come with a warning for those who have pacemakers.

I was having problems with my RCBS Chargemaster. I finally figured out it was the Xfinity pod in my reloading room. That wifi extender drove me crazy for a few days till I systematically tried everything I could think of. As soon as I unplugged it , the scale settled out right away. We just got it a couple of weeks ago and I plugged in the room one night and activated it while I was cleaning brass. Moved it to a spare bedroom and everything is fine now.
