when looking through scope on the lower power settings there appears to be some "smudges" on the lenses however after cleaning both eyepiece and objective it's still there. When increasing power the "smudges" disappear. Decided to look through objective and notice dirt particles inside of scope. I assume this should be sent back to the factory I've never had this happen before. The scope is less than a year old.

On another brand the coating inside the scope would flake off and stick to the lens.

Seen this on plenty brands, some pretty expensive. One just doesn't expect it from a $1500+ riflescope. Leupold has a very good warranty and will fix you up pretty quick.
I agree. This was on some scope that featured Schotts glass. The company always fixed or replaced the scopes.

Something dislodged inside the scope probably mounting problem at least that's what Leupold will say. When you take it off the rifle don't be surprised if there is something loose inside.

Did you move it from one rifle to another it happened to me once after I pulled one from one rifle and mounted on another and after I shooting with it.

The good news they'll fix it the bad news you're going to be out the scope for a while.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

Had this happen to my VX-6HD last year. First time I took the scope out dirt particles flew up into the inside of the scope? Called Leupold and they said ship it back. I told them they need to pay for shipping and reimburse me for 2 boxes of 300 WSM. They at least paid for the shipping.lol

I did move it from one gun to another but I didn't notice it until I (it) flew 3000+ commercial air miles. It's mounted in a set of Nightforce rings on a Talley rail.

I have one more hunt to go on in early October after that I'll send it back. The scope has been great otherwise.

Leupold's warranty is second to NONE, they will fix the problem and have you back up and running in no time, every manufacturer has issues, the ones worth dealing with handle them as if they were the customer, Leupold has serviced scopes and modified scopes for me for at least 15 years, I never had anything to complain about.

I had the same thing happen on a 2 1/2 x 8 Vxi. When I took it out of the box I was standing in the sun and as I looked down through the scope I could see a very clear fingerprint about two surfaces down. I called the dealer up and he quickly emailed me a shipping order and I sent it back. I had a new one within a week. I was surprised quality control didn't pick it up at Leupold. They have always been my go to for hunting scopes but now I am a bit unsure.

Just sent one back to Burris for similar issues. Mine was caused by recoil I think. The inside of the eye piece was covered with dust. The second lenses back from the objective has what appeared to be a thread on it. I went through 40 416s before I figured out it was the scope!
