The 300RUM and 338RUM use different brass, (go figure), with the 300 brass having slightly more capacity than the 338 brass.
While others may have wildcatted it earlier, Shawn Carlock has named the 300RUM cartridge opened up to 338 the Edge, and he is widely acknowledged as the master of the cartridge.
It would actually be a 338/300 RUM if you used the Caliber/cartridge designation, like the 30-06, 25-06, 7mm-06 etc.
