Caliber?

I'm going to go for a 300wm. Action works good and no hang ups.
Obviously you can do whichever you like, but I think your posts are at at times a little unclear to those who are trying to assist.

You mentioned a 338 RUM had to pried be out? I want to make sure that you were referring to being pried out of the magazine.

What happens when you do not use the magazine at all and drop a 338 Rum into the chamber and close the bolt? Will the cartridge chamber and the bolt close normally? If the answer to that question is yes, then you have a 338 RUM but the wrong mag box and follower.

Changing the mag box and follower is a very inexpensive solution and you will have a 338 RUM like you wanted.

I'm like lancetkenyon, I would try shooting it first. You'll just have to single feed.

Go shoot it first. You may find that it is worth it for about $150 to mill out receiver instead of the $600 re-barrel.

If it shoots well and you still want to change it, dibs on the 338 barrel😜
