I have a factory 26" Savage 300 win mag varmint barrel that I would like to rechamber to wsm and use on a short action. Will there be enough material left after the cut to cut new threads and rechamber to wsm?

I don't think so. You need to take ~1/2" off and Savage barrels taper too soon to get that.

KRP is probably right.

But even if you could, then cost-wise it seems not that much more to buy a new pre-chambered barrel and screw it on yourself.

Keep or sell the old barrel.

I figured that would be the answer, but I haven't been able to get in contact with the local gunsmith that I use to ask him so I thought I would ask here and someone would know.

I was going to use this barrel because it shoots pretty good and my gunsmith would only charge about $80 for the rechamber. Looks like I will get to start shopping for a new barrel.

Thanks for you help guys.
