There are a couple of different methods. Lead slug and compund(s) and tight borebrush and wrap and compound(s). There are some white papers out there on it via google. I did it to an old mauser with the wrapped bore brush method once. It cleaned up the barrel very nicely. ( corrosive ammo) As far as any other improvement, not noted in my "project".
