I bought this on auction, intending to mount a scope and use it as a mid range target rifle. It was the caliber I was looking for, and I fancied the barrel profile.

Turns out it has no holes on the rear receiver.

It is serial number 57---, 375H&H, Winchester says it was made in 1945.

Is it worth more to leave as is, or drill for rear mounts ? I have no idea if this is an original condition rifle or not.

Barrel looks different and recoil pad look like a replacement. Pre-war (WW II) Model 70s were not drilled on the top in the rear, mounts were made to use the receiver sight holes but that safety is not the teardrop pre-war type. Maybe you can find a old mount.

Good luck

To a collector it's worth more as is.

All you need to do is get the right scope rings/mounts made for a rifle of that era and you'll be fine.

If you just want to put a different set of mounts/rings on it you can drill it but it will reduce the value for resale.
