Been thinking about this round for a long time and am finally about to pull the trigger on one.
Anyone use this as their all around for North America?
I saw a load on Hammer's website showing 2765fps with the 258gr Hammer! That load takes this round into a different realm and shows 2000ft/lbs out to 500 yards and over 1800' to boot! I know a lot of guys don't consider that long range, but for most of where I hunt, that'd be a pretty long shot. I figure there's not really anything in the PNW that would stand up to that.
Just curious and getting itchy as hunting season gets closer.

9.3 x 62 Journal 3rd Edition (Latest)

The list of contributors to the 9.3 Journal, reads like an All-Star movie cast. Larry Schuknecht introduces us to Herr Bock and cartridge guru and author of several books and countless magazine articles, Pierre van der Walt, is synonymous with the 9.3 Journal. The reader gets to hunt with famous Dr. Kevin "Doctari" Robertson and his Brno 9.3×62 in the Zimbabwean hunting concessions while former editor of African Outfitter Magazine, Dr. Mauritz Coetsee introduce the reader to both the 9.3×74 as well as the 9.3×62. Don "Ganyana" Heath has his last say on an angry elephant he had to put down using his 9.3×62 and a single Norma Mono solid. Frequent contributor to the Hatari Times magazine, Dr. Lucas Potgieter, hunts buffalo shoulder to shoulder with a 9.3×62 wielding Rhodesian farmer while Namibian farmer, Hercules Botha sort out a problem bull elephant on his farm.
This is a celebration of the 9.3 X 62 Mauser – that old, grand old work horse that covered generations of hunting years and still does. Its adherents are diehards who refuse to budge from the classic, old-style rifle. It is great for African plains game or deer hunting in America, with its superb accuracy and light recoil. The variety of game animals and settings makes this one of the most interesting cartridges ever produced.
This book is a must for all serious enthusiast who own or shoot the 9.3 x 62 Mauser Cartridge, and will become an important reference for the avid hunter of big game around the world who want to hunt with bullet to stop a charge! I have a good friend owns an old husqvarna 9.3x62. It's a very useful round that doesn't beat the 💩 out of you in an ordinary sporter rifle. He has absolutely no use for magnums and with that round, at the ranges he hunts, he has no need for them either.

I struggled between 3 cartridges, the 30-06, 300 WSM and the 9.3. In the end, I came to the realization that if I am going to own a 9.3, this is the animal for which it should be used. I've never hunted moose before but know that one wants to anchor them right where they are instead of pulling them out of a pond. ;)

No sir……since the Spring of 1990, my " one and only" hunting rifle (cartridge) has been a .375 AI. Scoped, fully loaded, and slung weighs in at 9 pounds 1 ounce……a pleasure to carry and pretty effective on game! 😉 memtb
What's the recoil like on that improved case? My donor rifle is 8.6# scoped and loaded. I'm looking forward to packing it this fall.

It's rather sporty from the bench…..but, not unbearable! As getting older has made me a bit of a pu$$¥……I started using a PAST recoil shield now. I'd say that my maximum quality round count from the bench would be around 25 or 30 rounds. There would be no quality shooting from the bench for a few days after!

According to ShootersCalculator, the recoil is 57 ft/lbs and some change with the light (/250 grain) bullets I'm presently using. Hopefull, to soon build a load with my 270 grain LRX's…..guessing it to be similar! memtb
