7mm Remington Magnum ?

I was just interested in finding out. What are your favorite
Whitetail Deer handloads are in the 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge... (Not necessarily long range loads) Thanks!

I have 3 so far worked up in my Rem 700 BDL 7 RM. I always liked the 140g NBT at 3250fps. Fast, flat, and accurate. The load is as follows, 68.5g RL-22, R-P case, Fed 215, OAL 3.350" Velocity is 3250fps, average 3 shot group at 100 yards is .4" 3 shot group at 400 yards was 2". I wouldn't hesitate to use this load on any mule deer I'll ever squeeze the trigger on from 50-800 yards. There is better LR bullets and these are my next 2 loads with those bullets. The 162g AMAX load is 61g RL-22, W-W case, Fed 215, OAL is 3.440". Velocity is 2900, accuracy is .3"-.4" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. 5 shot group was .7" The next bullet I used on my mule deer this year at 618 yards with no qualms what so ever was the 168g VLD. This is consisted around 63g RL-22, R-P case, Fed 215M, OAL is 3.450". Accuracy is below .5" at 100 yards, and is quite accurate around .5-.75 MOA to 800 yards. Velocity is 2950fps. I have a couple other loads that shoot ok, but there still in the process of becoming a good load. You'll also notice most loads used are with RL-22. Not so much of a bad thing untill you go to buy another pound of powder. I hope to find equally as good loads with the above bullets with either H4831sc, or H1000 for better temp sensitivity and lot to lot variation.

My favorite load was a 140 gr Ballistic tip loaded to 3400 fps with Rl-22.

That said, it has been years since I used that rifle. Now adays, I would look at the 169.5 gr ULD RBBT from WIldcat bullet. I have not taken any game with this bullet but I have used the same weight in the 270 version and have been amazed with its performance.

I've currently got a .284 9 twist 28" blank on its way for my custom (long action) rifle and I'm torn between 7mm WSM and 7mm Rem Mag. We only have one 7WSM reamer here in Finland and it's a 7mm/300WSM wildcat with a long throat (+3" COL) and tight neck (requires neck turning) and I'd much rather have a standard Rem Mag than a benchrest special. I'll be reloading in either caliber but I like to keep things simple. No moly, no weighing bullets, just a precise dose of powder, plug it with a VLD and go.

Is 168gr Berger VLD @ 3100+fps doable on the Rem Mag, provided the finished barrel is at least 26" ? How about 180gr @ 2915+ ? Safe? I know it should be doable on 7-300WSM using Vihtavuori N560 but I haven't been able to find equivalent Rem Mag loads.

In one of my 7mmRMs, I easily get 3100fps with a 168VLD via 64.5grns of RL19 and a 28" tube. My other 7mmRM sends 180 VLDs down range witha MV of 2975 via 63grns of RL22 and 28" tube.

I first used 150 gr sierra game kings great for LR but they will blow up if you shoot one close. Used Hornady 139 gr SST's this year it did the job at 70 yrds. I didn't get the chance to try them at LR. I have some 140 gr Nosler Acu Bonds waiting to be loaded I have heard good things about them.

Remington brass, Fed 215, 73.0-74.0g of R#25, 154g Hornady interbond or flat base sp@ 3250. This is a dragon slayer load. We have taken elk and deer and close and long range. The standard Hornady 154g sp flat base is quite a bullet for elk and deer.

By the way, you need to work up to this load in your rifle, and if you use Remington brass, you throw the brass away after one shot. We shoot this load in a Browning A-Bolt, and two 700's. If you shoot a deer at 100 yards, it will blow the guts out 10 yards on the other side of the deer.

I've never owned a 7RM, but the most spectacular deer kills I've ever seen came from my previous rifle (7MM STW) with 120 NBT's at 3600. I've shot 5 deer from 80 to 320 yds. with these and never seen an exit. They get into the vitals and when you gut them, it's like pouring out runny grape jelly. Bang Flop!! I've since started using heavier bullets to get an exit and realize that a bad shot with a bullet that doesn't exit will problably end in a long, possibly bad tracking job, but fast NBT's work if you put it in the right spot! You should be able to get 3400-3500 out of your 7mag. I wouldn't hesitate to use these out to 500 on a halfway broadside deer with calm winds. Problably better choices out there, just sharing my experience.

140-150g NBT's are great for deer. They usually exit deer incase they dont bang/flop. I like the speed of the 140 so always have a load worked up for them. Only getting 3250fps though. Knowing me, might just have to work up a 150g load to! Thought about trying the 120g BT for coyotes, but then got to thinking that at LR the slightly heavier 140g is a lot better. Just thinking out loud here.

i like the sierra 160gr hpbt gamekings loaded up with 62gr of IMR4350 runnin about 3150. does a good job on elk to by the way!
