Looking for advice for the 7mm-08 regarding powder. I have the tried and true IMR4350 and CFE223 both have comparable velocities however the CFE has lower pressures, my question is has anyone loaded the 140 grain projo with CFE? how is accuracy? Thanks in advance...

I have not messed with this cartridge much. But one friend bought all of the Reloader 15 I had to use for loading for his. He had a very accurate load with it. But for 7mm-08. I'm sure there are a lot of good powders.

Have not tried CFE223 but use Varget for years with 120-150gr projectiles. Good velocity and very good accuracy in my '08's
I agree with you, I've used varget and 4350 for a.l9ng while. Ive messed with the CFE223 in other common cartridges exchanging vice versa and very similar muzzle velocity. Looks like im gonna take the plunge brother, thank you for your response, ill post some results later

If you can find it, R#17 with 140s in 24" is right at 2900 fps at the accuracy node. Win 760 is also tops, but you can use Varget with a loss of 100 fps.

130g Speer BTSP is legendary in how fast it puts deer on the ground out to 350 yds with a max load of IMR 4895, Rem brass, Rem 9 1/2, 3000 fps.

If you want to push the pressure limits, then Lapua brass is your answer.

Like @VinceMule stated, RL17 and StaBall 6.5 (what I use) are the speedster powders for the 140-150gr class, Ramshot Hunter for the 160gr class and Varget/Big Game for the 120-130gr bullets. Varget seems the most versatile and arguably the most accurate. I use StaBall under a 139gr LRX at 2925fps for hunting deer/elk.

I played with CFE223 pushing 139SST
start at 40grs.
The 4350's work.
16,17and 19. 19 will be compressed.
Vince has good advice as usual.
Varget and Win760 are good but you may want to use mag primers with 760
Have Fun be Safe

The majority of my 708 and 708AI bolt guns with 162 ELDM I use W760, H100V, N540.
My AR10 708 with 139SST I've found Varget and the VV substitute N540 to work great.
CFE, Lever, I find too pressure spikey for anything really.

If I had two powders for 708 it would be W760 and N540. I've shot pounds of W760 in high heat and stupid cold and it is surprisingly temp insensitive for ball powder. H100V swings velocities/pressures like a broken gate in a storm though.

I haven't loaded for 7/08 in a long time. Only 7/08 I have lost in a divorce lol……she decided it was her rifle.

What little I did load for 7/08 I don't have a clue what I used. Been a long time ago.
Why would you even post this if you can't help in any regard whatsoever?

Nice, very clear reply good sir. I bought the 140 grain sierra tipped game king for ranges out to 300, typically 200 is what i see here in florida. I want the extra angle so ill look at R17 for the speed, I've had superb luck with the TGK bullets so im hesitatant, I appreciate your reply
