6mm-06 or 6.5-06?

As you know start low and work up but in the 47 grain range(I don't have my notes) gave 3400fps and I was over that without ejector/bolt lift signs. Berger 105 0.005" off, WW brass, 210m, There are plenty of threads about RL26 results. I was going to do a 234AI or something but didn't see the need after finding the RL26. I am still testing it in the 6.5x284 where it ran faster than H1000 & Retumbo but I haven't gotten out again. I ran Berger 140 to 3080 with 55 grains no pressure but didn't load anything higher.

Test results with RL26 and 105 in a 243 at 3400fps! update DTACS - 1 - SnipersHide.com Forums - Scout

Sorry for the thread drift.

6.5-06 AI pushing the 147 eld-M at probably 3200 fps is rather impressive if you look at ballistics...

Is that a practical load that ll guns ca do? I had no idea that cartridge was that much faster than a 264 WM.

I'm guessing on velocity, but I have got up to 3100 with RL 26 in my .260 AI and 30" barrel, my load of 49.5 that i worked up to is going 3045 fps, so I would think the extra capacity of an 06' improved would yield another 100 fps...but I myself have no first hand experience.

Not sure if the 6.5-06 would quite hit 3200 fps with a 147. My 6.5 Sherman can run 140's at just over 3300 fps. This is a bit hot though and hard on brass.

I haven't tried RL 26 with the 140's, but I got the Bergers to 3015 with H-4831sc, as a max, and my most accurate and over a grain below max load was going 2930 fps, and the 147's were going my previously stated 3100 fps with RL 26, at pretty much max capacity of 50.5 grains, and my most consistent load is 49.5 grains scooting at 3045 at 20 degrees. As I stated I have no experience with this cartridge, but I do know RL-26 seems to do magical things....ha ha. Not sure if it would do 3200 with the 147, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Yeah R26 is doing some magical things. I get just as good if not a little more speed with VV N570 out of my Sherman. R26 is similar in speed and because it is not so course it meters much better. N570 tends to jam up the powder scale.

if those are the choices, 6.5-06 would get my nod. Lots of brass, smokin hot velocity if you want and great ballistics even with mild, barrel loving loads. And whatever you decide, have fun with it.

I'm biased tward the 6-06, I have quite a bit of info on mine, pm me and we can go over any questions you have over the phone.
