6.5 PRC 156 load development

Info seems to be scare for anything other than the Hornady 143/147 rounds. Rather than starting a new thread, hoping to keep this one going with updated info.

Anyone have load data for the 156 EOL with anything other than RL26 (I'm out) and H1000 (almost out)? I'm about to start load development on a 6.5 PRC and was hoping to try something in the 120 grain mono range as well as the 156 EOL. I have a good stockpile of powders to play with outside of RL26 and H1000 (8133, 4831SC, 7977, Retumbo, RL16, etc.) Have any loads dialed in with these powders?

Whidden is of the belief that .001 is enough and I could not disagree any more. I do understand he is a well respected shooter but start looking around at all the "bolt click" issues and you will start to see what I am saying. If you were seeing pressure the primer pockets would be loose after a few firings.
that is not even close to enough even for small short cases

I'm shooting a 6.5-284 Norma, so it sho

I'm shooting a 6.5-284 Norma so data should be similar. Using the 124 gr Hammer Hunter with 55.0 gr H4831. I dialed it in before my barrel was completely broken in. Was getting 3140 fps, then it jumped up the 3226 fps with the seasoned barrel but didn't lose accuracy

Has anyone tried the 156 with H4831? I'm running the fierce carbon fury and I just cant seem to get real great repeatability with the 143 so going to try the 156 with either H1000 or H4831! Have a great node at 60.5 of h1000 but one trip its ragged hole and the next trip its 1" group

60.5 with H1000 and a 143 is probably over pressure.

I have a good load with a 140 berger and 54.3 h4831sc.

So start lower with the 156 and work up. It won't be ideal, H1000 would be better for the 156 or even retumbo.

My best loads with the 143 were around 57-58 with H1000...around 3000 FPS, if that helps.

My current load is 55gr RL26 and a 156, shoots great at 2940 average.

Retumbo would be great if could get some but the stuff is like unicorn crap!!! Lol

With a CA Ridgeline, these are the notes from my initial testing with H4831SC. 156 EOL seated long at 2.330" BTO. Tested 52-55 grains in half grain increments:

52.5 grains = 2805 fps, ES 15, SD 7.7 and .55" group @ 100 yds
53.5 grains = 2869 fps, ES 20, SD 10.4 and .48" group @ 100yds
55 grains (max load - ejector mark) = 2937 fps, ES 2, SD 1 and .74" group @ 100
I'll test seating depth at 54.8 grains and hope it tightens up because I'm liking the SD.

As a side note, I also tested RL16 with the 156 EOL. While I found a really accurate load at 100 yards (bug hole) the pressures spike quickly, ES/SD is high and velocity is low. Very accurate at 48.5 grains RL16, 2742 fps, ES 31, SD16.

I measured my 3 time fired ADG cases with a micrometer, and my cases are .532 below the mark on the case where they expand in the chamber. Hornady dies. Has anyone talked to Hornady? Same issue with my 300 Norma Improved. Whidden denied the issue but Ryan Pierce got Hornadyvto make dies to size correctly.

My measurements are the same as yours with adg brass. I'm using redding bushing die. Case was sticking on extraction. I had the chamber honed an polished.
So far, problem solved.
