I'm tossing up a rebarrel between these two calibers.
Profile will be a standard sporter at 23" plus a brake.
Action is a Rem Titanium short action, which would make the 6.5-284 essentially a single shot which is not a problem. I suppose it comes down to performance in a shorter barrel.
How do they stack up?

With that short of a barrel, I'd just go with a standard .260 Rem. Not going to gain a whole lot with the A.I. anyhow, and with the short barrel you'll be gaining even less. 6.5-284 will be even worse in a short barrel. I have a .260 and a 6.5-284 and like them both. If I were considering a .260 A.I., I'd just go to the 6.5-284. A standard .260 is just about perfect in 22"-24" barrel.

+1....spot on advice.

I have a 23" 260 that I can hit 2850fps with 140 bullets and H4350, BUT that chamber has a .250" freebore which allows the speed with-out the excessive pressure. Normally you could expect 2700-2750fps.

My 260 AI (mag fed SA) with a 26" barrel will hit 2920 fps with 140 grain bullets.

I'm thinking hard right now about my next tac comp rig and I'm thinking 260ai.
