Last year I decided that I wanted to build a custom rifle. I wanted something that would be really good for long range shooting and mule deer hunting. I did a ton of research and I narrowed it down to the 6.5-284 and the 6.5-06 Ackley Improved. I finally decided on the 6.5-06 Ackley because of the increased velocity and the ease of finding brass. I had Greg at Southern Precision Rifles barrel the action and then I did the rest of the build. I learned a lot through this project about rifle building and reloading.
Rifle specs,
6.5-06 Ackley Improved
Tikka T3 action
Factory trigger set at 1.25 lbs
Brux #5 fluted barrel 26" finished length
Stock is a laminate from Richards Microfit Gunstocks
Seekins 30mm scope rings
Leupold VX3 6.5-20x50 LR scope

I'm shooting 140 grain Berger VLDs at 3165 fps with 64.5 grains of Ramshot Magnum.

Awesome. I have a Rem700 in .270 and would like to re-barrell eventually. Still trying to decide where to go with it. What is the weight without scope? I prefer a heavy rifle. That barrell should last with the load you mentioned.
