.45 ACP Loads

We may start to get back into shooting .45 ACP and 9MM in 1911s. May have to break out our RCBS Progressive 2000 Pro Reloader. I was using Unique with loads
.380 3Grs of Unique
9mm 4 grs of Unique
.45ACP 5 grs of Unique with 230gr bullet.

Anyone have sone loads for target???
We have several thousand brass cases to reload in .380, 9mm, .45apc!
Have not loaded in about 10 years and want to put 4-5 ( mistake thousand) HUNDRED loaded of each for future practice.

I have my info for IPSC somewhere, making Max Power Factor loads.
We used 220g Lead RN waxed bullets made by 10 Ring.

.45 acp federal large pistol, 6 grains of w231, bullet is a zero 185 gr jhp, oal 1.210 - 1.215, very accurate in my colt. I stopped loading 9mm, you can buy it cheap enough in bulk from sg ammo that it's not worth the time or effort on my part. Sellior & bellot makes some really good stuff in 9.

When I was shooting the 45 auto in IDPA and USPSA I was using a 200 grain lead SWC with Win231.

For 9mm you may want to revisit the cost these days. Buying factory loaded ammo is dang near the same as the price of a primer plus the price of a bulk bullet.

I'm using 185gr Missouri LSWC 12bn, and 185gr Sierra HP in my 45 ACPs.
Powder of choice is Ramshot Silhouette.

I use these in my Springfield Armory Champion and Walther PPQ.

The past few years, I've been running a 200gr LSWC with 6.5gr of BE-86 for 1,000fps in my 5" 1911's. These are not the typical "target" velocity loads, but have proven very accurate in my pistols, even my 4" XD's, and yet, they give plenty of speed and have recoil similar to my defense loads for true life practice. In a pinch, that load will also serve as a defense situation.

For lighter target loads, I loaded 5.5gr of Unique under a 200gr LSWC for around 800fps or load 6.0gr under a 230 LRN for 860-870fps. If using the copper plated RN 230's, I use 7gr for 925-930fps.

Meh.....I've loaded high volume pistol loads since the 80's. Once I set up the Dillons and triple check everything, I let the machines do what they do best. Every so often, I will check a powder load for accuracy, and then proceed forward. Four decades and hundreds of thousands or maybe a million+ of rounds later, I have not had any issues. Currently, I have well over 1,000 rds of 380, about 5k of 9mm, 4k of 45 ACP, 3k of 38Super, 2k of 9x23, and 4-5k of 38 and 357 on the shelves. Typically in the late winter like February, I load 2-3k rounds of 222 and 223 for the coming p-dog season, and after all these years, I have never had any issues with those either.

Like all reloading. Make sure you have things right, and it will serve you well.

Coyote, may I suggest that you get out of the Unique business and get into the AA#5 business with the 45 ACP? Clean burning is an understatement; never a powder bridge.

8.0g #5 with 200g Semi-wad cutter is very accurate and will double as self defense load
7.6-8.0g #5 with 220-230g is very accurate Target/ self defense

200g cast Lead Hp made by GT Bullets, as accurate as the Gold Dots and expands to 90 caliber
230g Gold Dot
I cast my own 200g SWC and 220g Round nose from Seco molds
GT Bullets are down in Agusta, Ga. and George is one heck of a guy to deal with! Hard to say enough good about George!

3.4-..7g of Tight group 950 fps great accuracy. George's 130g Cast Hp shoots tight groups with this load, expands to 69 caliber

Jill and I used to shoot at least 1K+ pistol rounds a month out of our custom 1911s but LR Rifle took over.

I like Titegroup and 231 for my Kimber 1911 when shooting 200 grain SWC and Bullseye when shooting 230 RN. I find most 45 ACP are most accurate around 800 to 850 FPS. Most of you have probably shot more than I have. I rarely shoot more than 1000 to 1500 rounds a year with my handguns.

Great Practice load and by far the most accurate load in my Glock 30 Gen 4 that I have tried with either Hornady 230 XTP or 230 ball. Make sure it will cycle in your pistol. It's about .4 grains off of max and shoots much softer than full house loads. FYI 4.8 grains was where cycling issues started for me. Much depends on how much recoil spring you are running.
