hi guys, just needing some help and advice here.reloading for my 338 winmag using Hornady 225g SST and was wondering what is the best powder for it as there are so many and what with the cost of it here in the uk best get it right first time around.trying to keep it about the 2700-2800fps mark and will be shooting big reds and sika deer.
its for a tikka T3 Hunter with a 1/10 twist,distance no more than 600 m

many thanks

I have a 338 WM w/26in.10 twist ( lilja ) . 74.5 grains of reloaded 22 with cci 250 primer run at 2800 with descent results. Same load produced similar speed with factory barrel, factory barrel thought it was a shotgun, its now a tomato stake !

many thanks for that, been looking on tinternet and there seems to be lots of people going on about R19.anyone done any load testing with this and 225 sst

It runs good. Large powder so takes up a LOT of case space so you have to seat a little further out. Look at IMR-4350. It's smaller and tales up less case space. RE 22 is a faster velocity powder. It burns slower and builds more pressure.

I use RE-19 at 75-76 grains in my Tikks T-3 light. I did quite a bit of load work last week. My best load was 76 grains RE-19 with the Cutting Edge 225 grain right at 3000 fps.

My load is 74 gr. R-19 with 225 gr. bullet, TSX/Nosler/Hornady. All chrono at 2850 fps and go into about an inch. Rifle is a Tikka T3 lite. I do use R-22 with 250 gr. bullets. R-19 has worked better for me than H4350, IMR4350 or IMR4831 with 225's.

I'm at 75 rl19 with either the 225 hdy interlock or the 225 accubond. 2900 fps with either and sub moa from an 8# ruger #1 rifle with most groups at 1/2 moa or less.
