All, any experiance with the 338 300 grn OTM. I have been loading 300 grn Hunting VLD but am not able to find any. I am looking to see if anyone has experienced much difference in point of impact. I need something to practice with. Not concered about jacket thickness etc. just POI. THANKS.

If your shooting a 338 Lapua or lesser chambering, stick with the Elite Hunter version. IF your able to drive them over 3100 fps with the larger magnums, the OTMs have done alright. If you are driving them to 3300 fps or more in the top end 338 magnums, the OTM works very well.

Pick your velocity range your in.

Thanks? If I could get the Hunting VLD would stick with them. Scarce these days. I just picked up a box of 25o of the OTMs so will practice with those. Appreciate the feedback.

I have not seen any noticeably difference in how they shoot except perhaps at really long range but even then, they are extremely close so practice with the OTMs and hopefully by the time you need to throw one at a big game animal, the elite hunters will be back in stock!!

Have the elite hunters held up to your bigger chamberings kirby?

In the 338 Allen Xpress which will drive them from 2900 to 3000 fps they perform extremely well in a window from 400 and out to about as far as you can hit your target.

In my 338 Allen Magnum with its 3300 fps muzzle velocity, range really needs to be out past 1/2 mile but past that they work extremely well from there out to much farther then I can shoot at game!!!

My 338 Raptor is right between these two mentioned so I would estimate it would be best to be at +500 yard on heavier big game.

These recommendations are for big game in the 500 lb. class or heavier. For deer size targets, these bullets will get the job done at pretty much any range but at closer range, expansion will be significant and tissue damage quite severe with the elite hunter. Inside 300 yards, things can get pretty nasty!!! :D

All I have shot out of my 338 Normas are the otms, because that is what was out earlier and I stocked up. Have not kill shot past 850, but have been putting large holes in the game.Closest was a brush type with small opening at bull at 50 yrd.

Would imagine they would work just fine out of the Norma at ranges under 1/2 mile. We have just been seeing some inconsistent expansion performance at longer ranges with these bullets because of their thicker jackets.

For closer range impacts, like your 50 yard example, they would be the one I would recommend for any 338 magnum large enough to use this bullet weight and I suspect they would perform very well.

Been shooting HSM 300 OTm hybrid in my Lapua. Practice seems to do well, but I only have about 80 rounds shot so far. I did shoot an elk at 400 yards dropped in tracks. Could not find the bullet, shot in neck and disintegrated completely. Not what I wanted so I will be changing.

You were using the OTM out of a Lapua at 400 yards and there was no exit wound at all? That is very odd using the OTM bullet.

That said, I shot a red stag this fall at around 700 yards with a high shoulder/spine impact, broke both shoulders and drilled through spine and was found on the off side in a good mushroom but it did not exit. The Stag went down like he was hit by lightening though!!!

We shot a bull bedded at 546 yards with his rear to us. All we had was a neck shot. After much discussion on exact placement, and minute wind dope, we put a 300 OTM from the LRKM, .338 Terminator, 3200 FPS MV. right through the neck. I will post video below. Exit was large enough I could stick two fingers into it and the blood loss was pretty impressive.
