300WSM 200gr ELD-X

I just finished the metal work on a 300WSM for an elk hunt this October. I'm looking for any insight on loads for the 200gr ELD-X. I throated my chamber for the 200gr bullets. I'd like to stick with H1000 or H4831. However I do have Hybrid 100 and H4350 on hand. Build details as fallows.

Hart barrel in a custom contour finished at 24"

I would start with the H4350 since it provides temperature stability and has the best burn rate for a 200 grain bullet in my experience. I have not used Hybrid 100 so I can offer no advise. H4831 could work but I think H1000 is too slow for a 200 grain bullet and would not allow you to get the velocity that you are probably looking for. Just my 2 cents.

62.8gr of RL-17 gave me 2952 fps and 0.5 moa
Pay close attention to seating depth with this bullet. My usual COAL is 2.860" and was just ok, but when I went to 2.855" I got the "clover leaf" group.
If I were you, I'd use the Berger seating depth protocol first. It's generally pretty easy to find your best load after you find how much jump your rifle likes with this bullet. I load the ELD-X bullets in a bunch of different calibers and found this to be the best and quickest method.

As always proceed with caution and YMMV ...

Hybrid 100: 52.8 = 2500 FPS; 62.5 = 2900 FPS
H4350: 53.3 = 2500 FPS; 61.7 = 2900 FPS

It might be worth your time to try dougduey's load recommendation of ...

RL17: 53.4 = 2500 FPS; 62.8 = 2950 FPS

as well as ...

Hunter: 57 = 2500 FPS; 68 += 2950 FPS

Thank you all for the replys. Forgive my ignorance but is RL17 or hunter 57 temp stable? This rifle is for western elk hunting. So it will see a wide temp range. I've never seen the Hunter 57 in any of the shops I usually buy from. RL17 and H4350 are hard to come by near me.

I have been using the RL17 on my .300 WSM for 3 years now without any issues with 215 Bergers in the adverse weather conditions of Montana.

As far as temp sensitivity goes, all powder has the temp zone (seems to be around 70-80F or so for the most part) that might drastically change/affect it. When I was developing load, the best velocity/accuracy was generated as follows:

1. RL17
2. MagPro
3. H4831SC
4. H1000/IMR7828SSC
5. H4350

Like I said previously, YMMV, but don't be afraid to try what you have in hand. The H4831SC remains as my go to powder for most of my loads.
