Has anyone tested the .308 200gr ELD-X Hornady bullet in the 30-06 it would be a great bullet if loaded to 2700fps.
That sounds promising so keep us posted on the results. When I run the 200gr ELD-X through the Ballistic calculator it looks impressive. I think I can reach 2700fps with it which would hold 2004 fps at 600 yards with plenty of punch out there. My old Hodgdon's NO. 20 manual has a 200gr speer at 2690fps with 59gr 4831. I will be testing it in a Enfield rifle that the barrel has been shortened and stock worked down.264 WM
I've been testing the 212 ELD-X in the 06. First time out was Thursday. It put 3 into 0.688" at 200 yards. I only had one load with me and was just gaging the powder burn rate. I've got some faster stuff loaded but would not be surprised if I could not beat the original load. Will be going back to the range on Monday. I loaded the 212s 0.020" off the lands as recommended so that is a good point to start. The 200's are a better fitted to the 06 but I'm using the 212's in two other rifles so decided to throw them in the 06 just because. Good luck.
One thing that can't be disputed is the staying power of the 30-06. It's been around a long time and still holds its own with some of the magnums out there. I have been considering one of the Noreen AR style 30-06 rifles as a fun gun with reduced recoil over the bolt actions. The 200gr is still 1600fs at 1000 yards.264WM
Amazing what a good BC will do for you. I ran some ballistic what ifs myself. I was surprised to see the 212s out of the 06 hit min velocity (1,600 fps) at 775 yards with elk killing power still available. The 06 may have some life left yet!

Here is Berger twist rate calculator so you can enter your bullet info and come up with the best twist rate for the weight of bullet you will shoot the most. Twist Rate Stability Calculator | Berger BulletsDoes anyone know the twist rates can be found. Looking at the website I cannot find them.
Specifically 30 cal.
Thanks
