I got a call from bartlein and they are done putting my new barrel on my a-bolt in 300 wsm. It is a 26" 1-10 #4 bull sporter. Now I need to get ready to find what it likes. My goals for this gun for now are 6-700 yds on deer and hogs. I would like to keep it in the 150-165 grain range but will go heavier if nothing shoots well. Below are the bullets, powders and primers I have on hand. Any suggestions on where to start. It would be nice to end up 3100 Fps or higher.

Primers:
WLR
WLRM
CCI 250
GM215M

POWDER:
H4350
Superformance
Varget
H4831
H4831SC
IMR4350
IMR4831
RL15
RL19
WIN760

BULLETS:
Hornady 150g btsp
Hornady 165g btsp
Barnes 165g TSX
Berger 168g Classic hunter
Berger 185g Classic hunter
Berger 185 vld hunting

I'm not opposed to getting any new components but would be nice to start with what I have. Thanks for the help

I would go with 150 or 165 as you asked... any mag primer and either Varget, 4350, w760 or RL19.

Good luck

My 24"sporter factory barrel likes 168 Berger classic hunters, H4350 and 215M at 3160fps .
My Mcgowan 28" Varmint likes the same bullet IMR4350, and 210M primers 3300fps.

Good choice for 168 class bullets. Neither barrel would even think about wanting to shoot VLDs well, both chambers were so short throated I really couldn't experiment with seating depth much at all.

I have had really good luck with mine with.
165 gr SGK
Winchester brass
Cci 250
68.3 Superformance
.020 jump to lands. I tried closer but mine did best at .020
I got 3113fps out of 24 inch tube 83 deg.
This round has taken many deer out to 400. Never tried a hog there are none where im at.
Hope this helps

Just did custom ammo for a customer's 300wsm Proof Research. Ran H4831sc with wlrm primer under our 181g Hammer Hunter just over 3000fps. Held sub moa out to 1000y.

I've worked and loaded for about 7 different wsm's...the best groups always are shot over H-4350 without question...primer producing best groups Remington 9 1/2...bullets depend on what your shooting, out to 500 yard hunting 150/165 Partitions or X-bullet are never bad choices, for targets or steel banging any of your Bergers will work fine...this is a simple easy to make shoot well cartridge, enjoy it lots !!

Should you decide on a heavy bullet you would do well with the well documented 215 berger target hybrid. Or if you are inclinedm the 230 gr target hybrid.

A friend asked me to load up some high BC bullets for his Browning A-bolt with the BOSS in 300 WSM. It has a 21 or 22" barrel, hard to tell with that ugly BOSS on the end. I had some 230 target hybrids on hand and gave them a try with RL-17. Bullets were seated to fit the short magazine of 2.8". It was quite accurate without tuning the BOSS. Load was 61 gr of RL17 for 2735 fps.

He shot a cow elk at 300 yds with this rifle. I was there spotting for him. It was a double lung shot. Cow took one step and stopped. The other cows with her came up to see what was wrong. In just a few more seconds the cow just tipped over with stiff legs and died. The other cows stampeded out of there! Needless to say the bullet exited leaving a 2" exit hole. Very impressive results.

I was using the Berger 185 Hunting VLD in my 26" Savage model 12 VBSS. Using a recipe of 69 grains H4831SC, Federal LRM primers and getting a velocity of 3050 fps. approx. .5 MOA at 550 yards, which is currently my longest distance to shoot them. I have taken deer size game out to 350 yards with 1 shot kills DRT(Dead Right There). I am in the process of shifting to the 215 Berger Hybrids with a current load of 67 grains H4831SC, CCI LRM primers and I am getting .4 MOA at 100 yards. I have not had the opportunity to try them at longer distances as of yet. I hope to do so in the next 3-4 weeks. These are very max loads, please carefully work up to them. They do extremely well in my rifle.

Thanks for all the quick replies, when i had the factory barrel on this gun i shot 3-400 rounds through it trying to find a load. I couldn't find any loads above 2700 fps that would group less than 1.00" at 100 yds. This is why I'm looking for help with this new barrel.

for those that have used the 168 berger classic hunters, how has the bullet preformed at both close and longer ranges? does it go in and explode or put a hole through both sides?

A, tried four powders and three weight Bergers. Surprisingly or not, H4350, 215M primer and 185 Berger VLDH are shooting <1/2 MOA @ 200 through my friend's 26" Savage rifle with a Boyd's Pro Varmint bedded stock. Seldom two rifles like the same load, so just info on what we found for this one. Good luck
