I just recently bought a 300 Win Mag in a Vanguard RC. I don't reload for this caliber as of yet. The gun has a 24" 1:10 twist. I am thinking about purchasing a box of HSM 210 VLD's to try out on my private range. Do you guys think this would be a good combo? Thanks

You'll never know what will be a good combo until you try the ammo for yourself. Every rifle is different, and every barrel reacts differently with certain bullets, powders, and load charges. The only way to find out is to try them.

It would be best to handload your own ammo if you can. RCBS makes a great starter kit to get you going for around $250, then you'll need to buy a set of dies (Redding # 84153) and a shell holder, and a few other items (powder, primers, bullets, brass, etc...).

Not Vanguard RC but my buddy has very good luck with them on his TC Venture in .300 WM, also with 24" 1:10" barrel. You might also want to check out ABM's offerings, http://www.buyabmammo.com/300-win-mag.html.

If any of the factory load shoots well out of your rifle, try to get the same lot number ammo until you reload your own.

Good luck and happy safe shooting/hunting! BTW, excellent choice of chambering. The .300 WM remains my go to chambering from antelope to elk size game up to 1K yards.

I have 4 V1 Vanguards. I have tried a few V2s at the range, nice bit of kit. The V2 includes most things I did to my V1s.

Pretty much any factory ammo will run within a reasonable minimum accuracy. If you are going to shoot for pleasure, I would recommend getting into reloading ASAP. You will save in the long run. If you are only going to hunt, find what it likes, stock up. Done.

I've never heard anything bad about HSM ammo. So, worth a try. I shoot the 210's in my 300 Win. I'm going to see if I can find a good load for the 215's and/or 230 OTMs this year. I know they both say "target bullet" but people are slaying critters with both.

Other factory offerings:

ADM ammo (Berger) loads the 215 and 230's. If you can find it in stock.

I haven't tried it but the Federal Edge TLR 200 grain load looks interesting.

There was another recent thread here discussing HSM ammo. I personally had good luck with it in both 300 Rum and .220 Swift but it appears their quality has hit rock bottom since I was shooting it.

Give the Hornady Precision a try and I think you'll probably be pleased but try a box of 2-3 different makes and see what your rifle likes best.

I've had great luck with the Hornady in three different .300wm's and several others but I've also had good results with Wichester's high end loads as well as Federal Premium in multiple calibers.

Thank yall for the help. I dont know which way I am going to head. I will keep yall updated and post pics of the groups. All I know I want 200 grain + pills.

Well after a long search for the 210 VLD from ABM I came up empty. So I ordered a box from HSM. I also picked up a new box of VLD 210 grainers from another site for hardly nothing. So if it likes the 210 pills I guess I will start loading for it. I will keep you guys posted of the results.

Well I tried the 210 HSM's today out. 10 shots total. Average through Chrono was 2802. That thing kicked like a freak mule. My pops was laughing. All in good fun. So no to how it shot. It sucked. Best group was around 4+" from a 100.My plan it to work up a load using the 210 VLD and I have a pound H4831 SC. Anyone use that powder?

You would be better off using a slower powder like IMR 7828, IMR 7977, or H1000 with the heavier bullets.
