Other than sounding like a porn from the 70's, I have been working on a new load. I have heard different oppinions about the distance from the lands. From seating right on the lands, to you need to give that RUM some run before hitting the lands, and not having an COL above what SAAMI recommends. So I bought a comparator, and an OAL gauge, and when I did the measurement, the COL was 3.88, 3.60 is what SAAMI says it should be. The gun is a Rem 700 stock. So for the bullet to fit into the magazine COL can be 3.69. My question is where do I start. I don't care if I have to treat it as a single shot, what usually works the best?

I am using 200g Accubonds.

Mine has a COAL of 3.785" to the lands but I decided that I didn't want to shoot single shot. The mag length is 3.700" so I seated the 200 gr AB at 3.625" and loaded 4 ea. at different powder loads

this is the best one on the lower left

so I guess my point is that if you find the right load then seating depth can be overcome

I loaded up a bunch of rounds. I had a really good group with Ret. 95g, so I started with the max. length to fit magazine, and then went up .05 increments, to .05 off of lands. I also loaded up a couple of powders/loads that people suggested on this web page. Just the ones that more than one person suggested, loading these other two loads in a length that fits the mag. Maybe get lucky. I am going to try and shoot the next couple of days.

In my group we have (3) model 700 sps 300 rums. We all shoot them at 3.650 (close to mag length). we also all shoot the 200 gr AB with 90 -91.5 grains of H-1000. this last weekend we fired 85 rounds from 565-750 yards with excellent results.
