280 Rem Loads

Does anyone have any good loads or can you point me in the right direction on loads for a standard 280? Rifle is a Rem CDL that I want to load up some 160 gr NABs for use on whitetails and elk in CO. I was thinking with starting with H4831sc or H1000. I will be using Nosler brass and WLRM primers.

I haven't loaded 160 on my 280 yet but I do have a good load for 150 grain Ballisic Tip. My powder of choice is IMR 4831 and I use 55.5 grain for 150 and 56 for 140. Both load shoot tight on my Douglas barreled Argentine Mauser Model 1909. My velocity on 24" Douglas were around 2900 on the 150 and 2987 on the 140. I used Federal 210 match primer and Federal brass.

H4831 is ideal for the 280. H1000 will be on the slow side. If I were you, I'll try H4831 first. Good luck

The only loads I have shot through mine have been using an old batch of RL-19. I used the 162gr Hornady and it shot clovers at 200yds. Cases were Win. and Primers were Win-WLR. I can't say what the load was as my notes for that particular rifle were lost on an old hard drive.

You might also want to try some Ramshot Hunter or Magnum. I have been trying them out on a couple of calibers and am totally pleased with the results so far. Haven't gotten around to the .280 yet but will shortly after the first of the year.

Stephen, Be aware if you try the RamShot powders that the factory recommends only using a standard primer, no magnum primers. The reason is that the RamShot powders work best with a slower burning flash which is given by a standard primer. I've had good luck with the Federal 210.
