26 Nosler????? !!!!!

Keep in mind spike hunting accuracy is NOT benchrest accuracy !! So it won't put 5 shots in a quarter anymore but it will put them in an apple.....more than good enough for big game hunting! I hardly think a bullet in the atriums will kill less than if it hit the ventricles ! Upper lobes of the lungs aren't less important than lower lobes!! Unless your brain shooting don't get excited, it'll last a long last time to hunt with regardless of how many shots you shoot. Just make sure you stock up on casings, hopefully 10 years from now that won't become the issue !

TARCHER, thanks I have some 140 and planned on starting with it. I am not bench shooting this rifle past getting it settled down as a shooter. Very interested in your loads. What do you think the heaviest bullet is a 1 in 8 can shoot?

I don't believe the neck is long enough to support much more than a 140 Grain projectile... I don't know of any "stock" load data that accounts for anything greater.
IF the stars aligned properly... that 1-8 twist should support past 160 grains.
There is a law of diminishing returns though.
Hell, even a 130 grain in a 6.5mm loads about the same as an "average" 150-155 in a 7mm, and the 140s are about like 170s in the same comparison.

What your asking for is a solution looking for a problem. shoot the 130s/140s or find a different cartridge to futz with.... like the 6.5 Prometheus.

You should try the Woodleigh 160gr PPSN it would be a hammer at 3300 or more. I have already pushed it to 3261fps with my 264.

Published velocities and pressure curves for the 26 Nosler with the 140/142s are 3250-3300 at probably around 62k psi... in a 26 in pipe.

Im lucky in the sense that my 26s LOVE RL33 and RL50.... 3350/3450 respectively with the 130 Accubond.... the Patriot is 26in 1-8 and the Western Hunter Xbolt is "26" but it's realistically 24+a break, finishing @ 26in.

At what pressure? I'm guessing around 85k.
That's not even unsafe, that's just plain ignorant.
Yes there is pressure signs such as flat primer and extractor mark but the bolt opens freely. And maybe you should refrain from name calling. I am using the old H570 powder. .264 Winchester Magnum - Winchester case, CCI 250 primer 120-gr. Speer 263-120-6-SP - 75.0 to 79.0 - 3275 to 3457 fps 140-gr. Speer 263-140-10-SP - 71.0 to 75.0 - 3194 to 3313
160gr Hornady round nose 71gr 3067fps. This is info on other bullets I only use it on the 130gr JLK VLD and the Woodleigh 160gr PPSN.

I'm shooting the 140 amax at 3350 with a 28" barrel in my 26 nosler. There was a little more speed available but 3350 was extremely accurate. Shooting a 160 out of a 264 win at 3261 seems a little dangerous.

Wow. That sounds more than a little dangerous. That sounds like a disaster in the making. Right down scary really. Maybe I'm just too conservative.

3260+ with a 160 is far more than scary/a little dangerous ! I'd check the chronograph, I wouldn't think you'd be able to lift the bolt and case life must be two/three...primer pockets would loosen up quickly I'd think. Good luck...

Chrono is good as when I load the 71gr H570 with the 160gr PPSN it is very close to the speed the Hornady No. 20 manual states. Book says 3067 fps and I get 3095 fps with a 30 inch barrel to get the 3261 I am using 73 grains H570.

264WM... If you want name calling, I'm you're huckleberry.
What I said is the truth. EVERYONE here knows what we all deal with is essentially a pressure engine. You gotta GIVE to GET..... be it powder weight, pressure, barrel..... what have you.
However, no matter HOW you cut it, you're 3-400 fps OVER max. Look at the 7 mag data... somewhat lawyerized these days... yes, I will concede that. However, even my fathers Hornady manual from the copper crush test days could barely get a 7 mag to do 3150 on a 150 and a 160-168 grainer to 3k.

What I'm trying to get at is your on the right trac to blow your head off with over pressure loads. I'm guessing that there are folks here with 6.5 STWs that would struggle to get those numbers out of a 160 in theirs.

Tell ya what. You find me reputable load data for the 26 Nosler for 160s, and I'll see how far I can throttle them in the Western Hunter I have. Smart money says, I'll hit pressure LOOOOOONG before it hits 3000-3050.

** Barrel length or not, the 264 doesn't have the powder capacity to utilize any more than 26-28 inches anyways, and at that length, its NOT 50fps per in any longer. its maybe half of that. You're over pressure. Simple. As. That.
