Hello, I'm looking to add another caliber, I currently own 308, 7mm mag and 300 rum and I'm looking to add another rifle for varmint, white tail Kodiak(joke)or anything else I can tell the wife. Needless to say I was leaning towards the 260, but I was looking for opinions on what everyone else thinks would fill in the gaps. 22-250, 7.5×55mm Swiss or other 6mm or 6.5mm ???? PS I also own the usual 22 long, 7.62x54R and ect

You got 2 .30's and a 7mm.......You're definitely missing a ¼-bore in your stable.

.25-06 Ackley Improved sounds like the perfect club your missing.

I love mine. Blistering velocities with the Berger 115 VLD's with IMR 7828 SSC and Federal 210M primers.

Can't go wrong with any of the 6.5's, either. I debated which for a while and ended up going 260. There are many choices and I think all will do what you are looking to do.

I shoot 400 out to 1000yrds just about every Saturday. With my 3006 and I'll tell ya. That .260 rem. Is hard to beat...

I would go with the 260, or a 6.5-06. It cheap to reload, good BC bullets better BC than any of the 25 cals, and you can use an assortment of powder to run the 260 and 6.5-06...A 6.5-06 Ackley would really sound good. Give you a little more speed out of a normal action and there always 30=06 cases to form or 270 or 25-06 which ever case is easiest.

For varmints up to deer, I would recommend the .243 or .243 AI. Good BC and good velocities with enough energy for deer to 5-600 and coyotes to 1000+.

Update, I bought a new savage model 11 260 trophy hunter, swapped the stock out and bottom plastic for a boyds stock and savage bottom metal. the scope is off it now and sent back to Nikon. I took my first white tail, I had to use factory loads due to such short time frame to hunting season. I used fusions, (not impressed with them) although I did get the deer. I don't even notice the recoil when shooting this caliber, thanks for all the recommendations.

Glad to see an update, and that you are enjoying your choice. The .260 Rem is an awesome caliber, and very often overlooked these days. If you ever get bored and want to tinker, you could always open the chamber up to .260 Ackley Improved, and get a little more velocity out of it.

I Stole this image off google. :D

Excellent choice! Have fun with it ...
