I recently acquired 200 berger 230gr otm tactical bullets. I want to load them for my 308 mainly for target to 800 yards. I have seen some powders for it, but what do you guys/gals like?

RL-17 and the 230 match target hybrid seated for single shot. My notes:

22" heavy barreled Rem 30BR/308 (slightly larger than a 308)
230 gr match target hybrid and RL-17 with twice fired win brass
Bullet seated into rifling
Fed 210 primer
chrono'ed with magnetospeed

45 gr
2428 2434 2417 ave 2426

45.5 gr
2436 2439 2419 ave 2431

46 gr
2461 2455 2464 ave 2460

I used this data as a reference from another poster on a different site:

"I've loaded the Hornady 225gr BTHP in my 308. Here are the particulars:"

Win brass
moly'd Hdy 225gr BTHP
CCI 200
RL17 - 48.0gr
OAL 3.08" (.008" off lands)
Rem 700 Varmint barrel, 1/12 twist, 20.5"
MV - 2500 fps

--------------------------------

I would start with 43 grs and work up.

Here is a long thread on others who have been shooting heavy bullets from the 308

308, RL17, 200 gr bullet - 24hourcampfire

I was going to pick up some reloader 17 the other day, but I couldn't remember if that was the stuff or not. Thanks a lot! How did they group?

Under 1/2 inch at 100. I have several boxes of the 230s and was just messing around. Didn't bother to refine the load or shoot any longer distances.

RL17 is going to be your go-to powder. While you're reloading, try a couple different bullets too....208Amax and 215hybrid.
