Next project will be a big and fast 22. I have a Rem 308 action
and a VLS stock with the large barrel channel, just need a barrel.

Like to load the 75-gr Amax (.224).

It would be really nice if I could keep COAL to the mag length
(2.800 ?) , but, is that going to be possible with either of these
cartridges ?

I'm not absolutely committed to anything just yet, so I could be
swayed by practicality and reason !

Thanks !

22-243 will work fine. The 22-6mm will be tough with a long VLD but will work ok with a 75 gr vmax.

especially if you install a Wyatts extended mag box. I think the 22-243 is about the limit. Its over bore to begin with. 243 brass seems to be readily available, 6mm Rem is kinda' hit and miss. I should have some Hart barrels in a month or so. There's at least 1 Sendero contour .224 8 twist in the order.

Ya',,,, the .22/6mm will probably last longer, brass shortage will see to that! Hoping to see some runs of 6mm Rem, 300RUM, 7mmSTW, 257 Roberts, 22/250 and others by Winchester and Remington this late winter/early spring. But, not holding my breath!

Sportsman's Warehouse in Tucson had lots of Hornady 6mm brass over Christmas. Or at least they did till I bought 300pcs. I can use it for my .257R project because I haven't been able find that stuff anywhere.

That 22-6mm sounds like a neat round to play with.

I don't have either cartridge but always fancied making a 22-6mm. Sure there isn't anything out there for rem or win brass but I've seen plenty of hornady 6mm brass around. I have a 6mm AI that I love and ended up making my high quality brass from norma brand 7x57 mauser and it's great. Just another step or two to neck, trim, and turn to take it down to 22 cal. I understand all that brass prep isn't for everyone but I enjoy it. Having not gone down to 22-6mm I am not sure if fire forming would be needed.

Bottom line... it may be some work making brass but the norma is great stuff but if that's not in the cards keep it simple and do the 243 base and get the lapua case as mentioned above.
Good luck

When I had one I was not aware of heavy bullets. My accuracy load was a fifty-five grain spitzer at 4,070 feet per second. I don't think heavy would have worked anyway since it had a twelve twist.
