I've been using the 215 hybrids with great success in my 24" 300 WM. I've acquired another 300 WM with a 26" barrel and the increased BC of the 230s has me wondering if the decreased wind drift and increased energy on game will be worth the reduced velocity.

I've read the thread Broz posted and it seems like they both work well. Just looking for more opinions on the two bullets. Will be using the rifle for elk and everything smaller, also quite a bit of informal long range shooting.

The difference/benefit probably wouldn't be seen with in hunting ranges. You would probably enjoy flatter trajectory and similar energy and drift with the faster 215 again, with in hunting ranges. 1200 yards and under.

I get 2800 fps with my 24" using 76 grains of H1000 , any more powder and pressure signs show up quickly.

I use the 230s in a 300 RUM for elk.

This year I used a reduced velocity load compared to what I have used in the past. I am getting older and not keen on getting too beat up. Refuse to use a brake. The load is tolerable with a 8.5 lb rifle.

Current load is close to what you could get with your 300 WM, 2800 fps. I am very impressed with the results I got this year on a nice 6 x 6 at 156 yds. The bull was facing me with a slight angle to the body. Bullet entered nicking the inside edge of the left shoulder and exited four ribs behind the right shoulder. Exit was 1 1/2" diameter hole. Bull turned around and piled up. Upon butchering found there was little damage to the meat.

Shot a cow elk at 250 yds with a double scapula shot a few years back when I used higher velocities, 2975 fps. Bullet exited again with a 1 1/2" exit hole and both upper shoulders had minimal meat damage. She dropped instantly to the shot.

I would suggest if you are going to get closer shots at big animals this bullet seems to expand just fine, might cause less damage and it will certainly exit.

Try both and pick the one that shoots better in your rifle. Buy ten boxes from the same lot and don't look back.
I use the 230 in two of my rifles. It reliably performs and I have enough on hand to finish off both barrels. There isn't enough potential gain to be had to persuade me to investigate what the 215 may offer.
