20 Inch 280 AI

Tagging to see the input. I'm not sure if the degradation in velocity would be significant. Also interested in shorter CF barrels for suppressed in 280ai.

Following. Building one and have yet to order a barrel due to uncertainty.

I am running my 280AI at 2950 pushing the 175 EH with RL23 in fireformed RWS 270 brass. You can guestimate from there. Barrels will be different you just have to get yours and chrono, see what that particular barrel does. Too many variables for anyone to give you the numbers you are looking for.

You might get a 155-160 gr to 2900. I think you will be realistically looking at 2800.

Out of 24 in barrel I get 2850 with
175EH with r23 at 58 grains. My gun shows pressure at 59gr. Lots of variables as stated above

This is within the significant range to me. Probably won't matter to a deer. I already have a 24" at the GS. I'll have to give it a shot with a suppressor and see how unwieldy it is.

I was just wanting to get an idea of how far I could stay above the 1800 fps for the bullet to preform. I was hoping for 500 to 700 yards
500- 700 yards should be very obtainable for said impact velocity with a 20" barrel shooting something like a 168 berger, or 162 eldm

I have a 20" 280ai. I maxed out the 172AH at 2885 using staball 6.5. I'm working on a load with 162 eldx right now and have a great accuracy node at about 2880 also with staball 6.5. I'm up in the air on which I will settle on to hunt with, I have a pile of the eldx's so probably will go with it. The 162 eldx would be above 1800fps out to 1000yrds at 8000ft elevation. This is out of a cf x-caliber barrel.

How is your accuracy out if the x-caliber CF? I get tempted but never order one, I have 4 of their steel and they have been pretty good
